    Default To buy or wait?

    http://www.autotrader.co.za/used-car...-000-to-84-999

I am driving a Corsa 2005 1.6i. I am still a student and money is a bit on the little side. I found the add on autotrader . I will need to sell my Corsa and put most off my saving into this buy. How is the reliability on the diesel and how is the fuel consumption? I will need to drive the Jeep for at least 5-7 years still if a buy now. What do you need to look out for on a Jeep like this? My other option is to wait until next year. I will be doing my practical next year. Then I will be in the position to spend around 80k. My Dad said I must wait till next year because I am not buying with my head now but with my hart to go 4x4. With 80k I could buy something nicer and look at a petrol , because I will be ably to buy the fuel bill. I need advice on this one and remember I am 18 and still a student. After my practical of a year , I will go back and study 2 years more.

Just remember the maintenance on a 4x4 is much more than a Corsa.

most 4x4's u can pickup for that kinda money are either very thirsty or in need or maintance as they are older. i would advise waiting, but another idea to consider is how many kilos do you drive and how many do you really need to drive. how much driving do you do that is just running around burning fuel cause ur bored and want to go somewhere.

if your good with holding onto your money and drive less than 1000km a month then you could consider a v8 like a defender or disco. 35000 second hand limit your self to 2 tanks a fuel a month the 45000 left in the bank could buy a lot of months fuel...

are you that diciplined to not drive more than 2 tanks a month. if so something to consider. if not then save the money another year or 2.

Christo, your Dad is right. A Corsa is perfect transport for a student. Waiting is difficult but remember, you will be able to buy a 4x4 when you have finished studying. You will be able to afford its maintenance, tyre and fuel costs then as you will probably have more money available.

My Dad and I decided that I must wait until next year. We will start looking at the end of July 2014 until we get a good deal and not rush it . It will be the longest wait of my life , but it I need to wait. We decided that I must look at something like a v8 Defender or Disco or Jeeps because I drive +-600km in a month. The KB will still be way out of the price range and they have a lot of kilometers on them. Thank you for the advice. The forum is really great. You all pointed me in the rite direction.

Sit still tot die gevoel weg gaan, a diesel costs and when it breaks it costs more, not sure about the 2.5 motor but the 2.8crd's injectors are R10500 a pop and there is 4 of them. S.A diesel = dirty = if you don't service regularly and maintain you get trouble. Finish your studies and get a good job, then you have the bucks to play.
