PeetS - see my earlier reply to Gobabisgirl. Essentially you would have to retrace your steps past Red Drum and Marble camp and then to Opowo by either of the two routes mentioned earlier.

Hi Chinese, do you have the dates you will be @ van Zyl's in September?
We are from Europe and will be travelling Northern Namibia with a rental Toyota Hilux.
Our itinerary: from Etosha to Opuwo, Kunene River Lodge and then to Van Zyl's, where we will be around the 23rd of September.
I had to promise Swambo we would not try to conquer the pass by ourselves but wait at the Otjihende campsite for at least one other car ...
Would be nice if we could team up...?

    Hi

Is Van Zyl's pass only accessible from one side? the best way is east to west?

What is the last place that you can get diesel and what is the distance that you need to travel before you can get diesel again?

    Please help

    Thanx

    Default Van Zyl's June - July 2014

During June - July 2014 a group of us want to travel through Van Zyl's pass and looking at the comments posted on road conditions and last year being a dry season can someone comment on the road conditions that have travelled there lately. Looking at weather forecasts and reports on TV recently seem like there cold have been rain in the area.

We will also be travelling through Kaokoland and VanZyls pass in July with other friends of ours and would appreciate also any feedback.

Is it required to book upfront for camping as this limits your movements and if something changes and you cannot make the said dates at the camp sites?

If you travels during the school holidays, reservations may be necessary at places like Kunene River Lodge and Epupa. Elsewhere you can bushcamp where ever you find a suitable and safe spot.

Driving through Botswana up to Roakana and then through Epupa, Van Zyl's, Marienfluss; where can garage cards be used or will most be cash for fuel? I presume places like Ruakana will take garage card but the rest will be cash? Any info?

I've used my Standard Bank Fleet Management Cards up to now. It is the only cards still accepted but mine will expire next week. Up to now I did not receive my new cards and neither can the bank confirm that it will be issued (and being valid) again for the new year. They apparently await instruction from their card division is SA.

    Hi Jannie
