    Default Pella to Vioolsdrif

Is there a route which follows the Orange River from Pella to Vioolsdrif. Somewhere in the deep misty recesses of my forgettory I seem to remember reading a report of someone who drove a Jimny on a route something like this.

Look in the Northern Cape section.

I can recall that Jannie Kubu here on the forum gave us an extensive trip report.
.... that's a trip I'd also very much like to travel

Yes, the Namaqua Eco Route. Look in the Nothern Cape section. The route is not directly along the river, but travels along the high ground and you can get to the river at places like Grootmelkboom and Kamchab. Fantastic trip. A permit is required. No ablutions or water at the campsites. Beware of the Road to Hell section unless you are travelling in a group. Jannie posted a nice trip report which was helpful for our own planning.

Thanks guys. Just after posting I did in fact find Jannie's report (very helpful). Subok, what permit is this that you mention. Whre do I get it and what does it cover?
We are headed for the Richtersveldt: both the actual park and also the World Heritage Site.

Thanks Gaitshi Gubib. This little map helps, and now I'm trying to get some info on the route from Vioolsdrift to Eksteenfontein vis the Helskloof pass. Are you familiar with this route?

No permit required but trail fee payable which gives you a map of the route.

Trail maps and permit can be obtained at the Namakwa District Municipality in Springbok.

Erwin, I did it now end of March for the 5th time! It's just unbelievable. For bookings e-mail Marika Grootboom at [email protected]. Cost is R150 per vehicle. Don't miss the Kamgab camp, it's a stunning peace of route! Enjoy it!
