OK, so now i am confused.. i am doing my EB next week and both my wife and i drive Automatics, so i dont mind the EB being automatic as my towcar will probably always be an auto going forward.

I am however worried about the B licence being automatic, as i travel a lot and need hire cars and dont want this to be an issue etc. So i mailed Milnerton traffic department and someone very senior mailed me back with the following "Your new driver’s license card will reflect a Code B with no restriction and a Code EB with a restriction of automatic."

Can anyone that has done their EB after their B recently confirm this for me ?

    Thanks

    Hi Everybody

So after reading through this thread, the wife and I are thinking about going for EC licences.

Can anyone recommend a driving school in Pretoria/Joburg that do EC licences? My Google-foo is failing me..

    Thanks
    Jonathan

OK, so this has now been confirmed in email by Gallows Hill as well, have email the provincial traffic department to get final confirmation.

Ha Ha this is crazy, so the Provincial Traffic department now confirms that the EB supersedes the B, meaning that the Auto Restriction will be imposed

Just shows how messed up this process is, no one seems to know whats going on.

That was my understanding of it when I did the research. When you get your new license, it states EB and not B therefore the restriction will apply. The only time you will have 2 codes on your license is when you do your motor bike license - again, this is my understanding.

100% this is what it will look like if you have 2 codes on your card.
A1 will be replaced with A and type of restr. for that code of vehicle.
B will be replaced with C1, C, EB, EC1 or EC and restr. for that code of vehicle.

Right, so it gets even more complicated now

The Provincial Traffic department has advised me of the following "Even if the EB erroneously superseded your B they would run a data fix. Your licence must have both B and EB"

So i am going to bite the bullet and do my EB in Auto as its the only vehicles i have access to and keep the email trail in case i have issues later.

This does also sound feasible given someone elses experience earlier in the thread...

Good luck, I hope the situation is as advised and you don't deal with red tape moving forward.

I used All-in-one driving school in midrand. They seemed to be the most honest but make sure you get them to walk you through the yard prior to the test.

Good luck on your EC, huge relief since I completed mine

    HUH??
I have A and EC1 on my License, so if the logic of that statement is to be followed, then should I have B, C1, C and EB too
I used to have the old Code 10 and when the new Licenses came out, I got issued EC1 only.

Does that mean I am only allowed to drive EC1 vehicles??

No, you may drive all vehicles up to and including EC1. Except A and A1.

So, how does this tie in with Acydebyte's post? Surely, if he gets the EB, then the new license will cover the B by default?
