Ok, EB test done. Here are a few pointers from my experience:

I don't think I would have passed the test with the Navara. The parallel parking space is a bit tight.

Use a long trailer for the test. As long as it is rated over 750 kg, you should be fine. The longer the better for reversing and alley parking.

Take a few lessons. There are a lot of small things you should and should not do to avoid losing points. I think it is actually more difficult to pass if you are an experienced driver as the test requires you to check blind spots at weird times and stuff you never do on the open road. I took three lessons to get comfortable that I will pass.

    Three questions.

    1. Do i need to do my EB learners and license in the town I am registered as home owner or can i do it anywhere in SA? I am currently working in Secunda during the week and thus if I have to do it back in PTA I'll have to take a full days leave... twice.
    2. Has anyone tried it in a Ranger? Both me and the FIL have Rangers and my heavies Fortuner is an Auto so that won't work.
    3. Are you allowed to use your parking aids? I.e. reverse camera and PDC or do they penalize you for that?

Lekrom, Should answer to point 1 be yes, could you please forward Andre's nr for me please? Also where did you rent the trailer and what did it set you back? Otherwise I'll have to borrow the heavies caravan to go for a couple of classes.

    "Yes" is the answer.
    Beer was the question.

    1. Your learners should be valid throughout SA but check when you go make your appointment.
    2. Having done the test, I won't do it in anything big. Rather hire a car or use a driving school. It will remove the doubt of "will I make it or won't I".
    3. I'm not sure. There certainly isn't anything on the score sheet penalising you for that but I suppose the examiner may ask you to turn those off. Personally I think you'll be ok as these don't help you to park, only warns you if you're going to hit something. Obviously self parking won't cut it.

You may use the aids. I used a golf 6 when doing my EB which had parking sensors and hill hold. I de-activated the sensors as I am a guy......I know how to parallel park.

I even made a joke to the sisi who passed me out, I told her this car can park by itself. She beleived me. Ha ha ha

Where is the best place to book EB learners and do the test? Will take the route of lessons just to make sure all is in order.

When does that other thing come in, the one where you can do it via a driving school on a certain amount of hours? And then you get the EB license if you got it right...

I only have code 8 and went direct to code 14. You can download the learmers manual on the website. Benoni is doing the computer system and i have called a driving school and they cant assist with "practice" so learn and then go for lessons for driving

Remember to go for your EC licence. The C licence does not cover EB.

Just a heads up, guys. I noticed that my new licence doesn't reflect the date that I got my B licence. This is replaced with a 2016 date with EB. Some insurers base their premiums on how long you've had your licence so hang on to your old one in case you are asked for proof.

I have now done the EC licence and finally passed. Word of caution to those wanting to do theirs, make very sure of the driving schools policy you engage. I had the experience of being offered a "guaranteed pass" which I declined and at the time of testing, the instructor didn't walk me through the yard, nor did the test official walk me through the test of what is expected at each point in the yard.

My experience second time round with a different school was vastly different where the instructor walked me through each step carefully at the test yard and I saw other schools do this. The test official also talked me through each execution and I noted that they were all doing this.

The whole process is a mission but I am glad it is finally over.

I just passed my learners again this morning, need to know a few things :

    • Which driving schools in CPT offer "EB Lesson"
    • Which testing stations in CPT can conduct the EB test

Sorry if this was already answered, i cant see it anywhere.

    Thanks

Alpha Driving School. Talk to Henry: 0846205566. Milnerton is one of the few testing centres which can do EB.
