    Default Walking for Lions

I am taking the liberty to high lite the project Walking for lions. As we are all outdoor wildlife lovers I think this forum can help spreading the word about the diminishing figures of our wild lions. I do not want to open this for pro and cons and arguments, and if this is not the correct forum the threat can be closed. In short, my son Marnus Roodbol is currently, with three friends, walking from Windhoek to Ghansi to raise awareness and raising funds for the survival of the dwindling figures of wild lions in Africa. He can be followed on www.walkingforlions.org or on facebook for their daily walks. His goal is not only to reach as many people as possible, but through the trust get involved in the practical aspects for their survival. This is only a small beginning but reminds me of the African proverb: If you think you are to small to make a difference, you have never spent the night wit a Mosquito.
Thanks everyone that takes this to hart.

Such a good cause, those lions. I have a photographer friend who is giving away photographs for the Walk for the Lions. Thank you for posting this. I will spread the word about your son on FB.

At last, someone raising awareness about a topic that relatively few people are aware of. Great initiative.

Most people see lions all over the show on TV, they don't know how bad it is.

The only thing that will save wild lions is protection and correct utilization of remaining habitat. During the 75% drop in lion populations there has also been a 75% loss of suitable habitat.

With the increase in the worlds population, and Africa's in particular, unless lions and people can live in the same habitat without killing each other and livestock there just wont be space. All energies should be focused on trying to figure out co-utilization of the land by means of protecting livestock so that they are somehow unattractive even with inevitable increased stocking rates. Thanks everyone for the positive feedback. The end product is not the people doing it but the Lions.

Speaking of IFP, where does the Dr. Buthelezi and his Comrades get their ceremonial dress from?

I assume they have all switched to faux fur synthetics?
