Arrow Anyone travelling from Kasane->Ihaha->Savuti->Xakanaxa->Maun 25,26,27 May?

    Hello,

Upcoming May my girlfriend and I will be travelling from Kasane to Maun through Chobe NP and Moremi Ihaha->Savuti->Xakanaxa (25,26,27 May). If anyone is also driving this route and would be interested to 'team up' with us (to help each other if one gets stuck or in case of other problems), please let me know.

    Kind regards,

    Jos

Should have no problem with a Hilux, just check your water crossings first if you encounter any on your trip. Will be dry on tracks this time ,just lots of thick sand.

Thanks for the info. We will also be doing a short 4x4 training in Windhoek before we start off, so I don't expect serious problems. We will also carry a satphone, but I think it's always good to have some local back-up if possible though.

If you stick to main tracks and routes, there will always be somebody that comes along if you run into problem. If by some chance you do get stuck, stay with your car at all times, this is a cardinal rule in the bush.Do not go on a walk about and try look for help. This could prove fatal.

We were planning to go north from Khwai (via Kudumane/Mubabe Village) through Savute to Linyanti campsite in Chobe in October (travelling alone in a Hilux 4X4), but were strongly advised against this due to extremely thick sand. The 2010 map I have shows a main track as described by Puma above, so I would think that it might be okay. Can anyone with fresh local knowledge please chime in? I am an experienced 4X4 driver having done the Kalahari Gemsbok many moons ago and Khutse more recently.

    Sorry for highjacking the thread

Hi there,if you deflate your tyres to 1 bar or less you would be fine,as long as your hilux is sound and the hi and low gear ratio's are in good working order, and you stay on the tracks and do not leave the tracks for any reason.

I will be on the same route around the 14th of June ...... if you live food on the way put a RED marker....
My advice is to just inform Savuti camp that you are on the way to Linyati , just in case .
The rest of the route have sufficient traffic to ensure some help in case of problems .
    Happy travel
