Default Defender snorkel, what did you pay?

    Hi all,

We're doing a casual poll on what you paid for a snorkel for your Defender. How much did you pay, if you don't mind saying?

Mantec NZ$361 wich includes freight from england if i got it from the dealers NZ$1400 pluss fitting. I opted to import it myself now know why its call the plastic thingy looks good but avarage no better than the cheap chinese ones I have seen that cost $150.

You can buy direct from mantec:
"The price for the 115-RAIDEF would be 102.66 and we have received a shipping quotation of 95.39 Giving the Total Cost = 198.05

    Hi Photoguy,

So that's about R2785 buying direct from Mantec. Does that include vat and import duties?

What issues do you have with the Mantec? How was the fitting? We're thinking of stocking them.

Havent bought one myself, but there's an annoying ad on gumtree that pops up everywhere for R1800. Seems to be a safari coppy. I prefer the mantek look or the old skool one with the pre cleaner. Have found the safari type acts more like a vacuum cleaner for dust.

there is a crowd called Summit snorkels in Midrand or Centurion? that supply snorkels of fairly good quality.
have 2 of them fitted to my vehicles and so far no complaints.

I live in NZ no import duty if item is under NZ$500 and for personal use.
I quite like the look of the mantec but its not as strong as a safari so for less you might as well get the ones from china. They are made to look bad by some people but friends who have them have no complains. I got the mantec as its the only LR approved one and my 110 is a week old now.

Fitting is strait forward, remove the vent grill tape the template to the body punch the 4 holes at the vent and two on window frame. Drill holes and secure the bottom two bolts might cause a bit of cussing if you have freestate arms ( short and stocky) but in general think it took an hour. I did not seal the rest of the pipework and air filter box as its not a snorkel. The body gasket is piss poor to be kind and I opted to use neutral cure silicone.

My biggest gripe is the hood its a unique shape so cannot be changed to a pre filter.

For the price I paid I think its good enough for the majority of people who want it for looks ill replace it with a china model and Donaldson pre cleaner once the warranty is over. For anyone wants it to protect their engine Id recommend something that can take a pre cleaner if its for show mantec is fine.

These pre cleaners work great to keep dust at bay and they are self cleaning.
