Default How many forum members does it take to change a light bulb?

How many forum members does it take to change a light bulb?

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed.

14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have
    been changed differently.

7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs.

1 to propose a new Lighting section.

2 to argue that an Electricals section would be much more useful.

7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs.

5 to flame the spell checkers.

3 to correct spelling/grammar in flame posts.

6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another 6 to condemn those 6 as
    stupid.

2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp."

15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly
    correct.

19 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a
    lightbulb forum.

11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the
posts are relevant to this forum.

36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light
bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty.

7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs.

4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's.

3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which
makes light bulbs relevant to this group.

13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and
    signatures, and add "Me too."

5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light
    bulb controversy.

4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

13 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs."

1 lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again.

This thread is totally irrelevant, until we can determine
    • whether the light bulb was manufactured by Toyota / Land Rover?
    • is it under factory / extended / no warranty?
    • was it serviced regularly?
    • at least one pic has been posted

I wonder what qualifies Koda to make such a blazé statement! Has he completed his PhD in Bio Engineering and Projects Management so he can comment on the finer electromechanical functions of the human body that allows for the dexterity to change a light bulb.

Come on Kai! What do you mean by Std. There is no such thing as "standard" when it comes to globes!!! 40, 60 or 100W(and before I forget W is for Watt, as in Volt x Amp and called so after an 18th century scientist and inventor, I seem to remember James, better known for his work on steam engines, not to be confused with Scotsman Robert Watson-Watt whos research helped the English win the Battle of Brittain due to his groundbreaking work on Radar)....Is it screw in or the jack type. Come on, give it some thought before you show everybody just how ignorant you are....

Default True story about the light bulb

My mother was school princapal at Golela Primary for many years(about 30 kids)

The inspector from Ermelo phoned and said that he was going to come and visit, can he bring something with. So my mom's reply was. Yes please. We need some florecent bulbs. Bring us 20.

A week later the inspector was there, with the light bulbs. On trying to fit them, they found they were to long. My mom then told him about the mistake and he must please take them back. "No way" he says. "Do you know how much effort it takes for these"

The proses is something like this.

School sends in a requesition for x qty of bulbs.
The secretary recieves the fax and attaches a memo and then the inspector has to write a motivational letter as to why they need that many and also those bulbs.
Then an aproval has to come from somebody higher up from him. He has to then give the OK for the bulbs to be bought.
Then the buyer has to go and get 3 quotes for the bulbs, select a quote and request a purchase order.
He will then take the purchase order to the supplier and get the bulbs
Now the bulbs have to booked into the stores.
Once they are booked into the stores, the inspector can now request the bulbs from the stores.
Then the storeman can issue the bulbs.

Now the inspector has his bulbs and drives the 300km to Golela.

On getting to Golela they discover the bulbs are to long.

When my mom retired 10 years later, those bulbs were still in the storeroom.

I could only imagine what it would be like to try and reverse this proses.

Okay, but if it's a Disco 3 bulb, you must have at least 3 extra members that have to keep on contacting LR to make sure we will not invalidate the warranty. They have to work in shifts because no-one at LR will actually know what's going on or return calls as promised.

That should be "Do Land Rover bulbs leak oil too?" And yes, the Disco comes with Xenon HOD lamps (High Oil Discharge), but you have to use a special lever inside the fender to set them up for Continental European use, so the oil does not blind the poor oncoming blighters.

This entire thread is totally off topic! Are the moderators sleeping? It should have been moved to the NOW category right from the start, as the indiscriminate changing of lightbulbs, whether at home or in a 4x4, can have a detrimental impact on the environment!
