    Exclamation Bezuidenhouts Pass

Hi Guys! A few of us tackled the pass recently. I believe its seriously under-rated! Its challenging and enjoyable to do. I would however suggest that it be done in convoy, especially in wet weather....

Did the pass in wet conditions in Feb 2014 - solo, scary! It was a small challenge, the view was great! Went down not up.

Did this pass on my XL 650, but retired to the Hilux(single vehicle) on the weekend, really worthwhile doing if you in the Bergville/berg area. If you find my riding boot that fell off the Lux let me know please. :P
Was more challenging then expected, but not difficult... in dry weather. Not sure why this pass hasn't received more press, good fun!

Default Bezuidenhouts Pass - 2015 Update

An update to the pass tackled from Harrismith to Bergville on 31 Jan 2015.

It certainly provided some interesting and challenging bits after the heavy rains, but was a lot of fun. Most beautiful surrounds and everything very green after the rains. Only wish I had had more time to enjoy the surrounds. (didn't want to get caught in the approaching storm)

Has anyone been there more recently?

Wow Gary some awesome pics and I'm surprised to see a VW 4-Motion bus on such a bad road wirh what seem to be standard tyres. Did you have any challenges especially uphill?

    That looks fantastic, beautiful views.

We have the same colour Caravelle as you, very scarce colour that.

    Default Cooper Tyres

    Hi GroblerM,

I came down the pass, so no uphills on this one.

The vehicle is standard except for the Tyres which are one size bigger than standard. Cooper AT3 235/65R17.

Is a great pass with amazing scenery. Definitely a must if you are in the area.

    Enjoy!

Is this possible in the standard Jimny. Just bought my car and going down to Durban in April and would love to do some gravel going down the Drakensberg passing Harrismith.

    Default Jimny

I would say definitely yes for the Jimny. You have better ground clearance, shorter wheel base and better approach / departure angles. Downhill should not be a problem at all.

Be careful with your tyre pressures as there are some sharp rocky sections.

    Have fun!

We did Bezuidenhouts pass in January this year, tried to go up but the pass was very muddy and had to turn around about 3 quarters in order to avoid damage to the vehicles

    Default January Rains

    Hi ccs1,

Turning around 3/4 of the way up must have been quite some challenge as the pass is quite narrow and rocky etc.

How awesome is the beauty of the area though!

What date did you attempt the pass? I came down 31 Jan and it was quite obvious there had been a lot of rain.

    Gary.

Did the pass on Friday, downwards. The road is in real bad shape and if doing it uphill, you will need to be very experienced so that you dont damage your veichle, but very beautiful and would do it again.

Took me at least 2 hours, I was alone and had to do some road building.
