Cool Freelander 2 Roof Rack Anyone?

Hi all, ok so first things first...I dont spend a lot of time on forums...so hopefully this message is where its allowed to be. If not...My Bad.

Anywho moving on, I have a freelander 2 and have given up on chasing other FL2 drivers whom have the oem roof rack, asking if they are using them...

Lol, so apparently this is not the way to get your hands on one as not all FL2 owners play nice with each other.

So I like the OEM rack, but the money is but few in my wallet. Thus I googled around and found some from somewhere in china (There or thereabout).

I found some for a really reasonable price, however the shipping charges exceed that of the actual price of the roof racks (I was gonna get two in, one for me and one for a friend)

So I figured, if anyone is interested PM me and we can see if we can share the shipping charges. This will make it cheaper for all of us

But I guess there will be some Q&A, so here it is :

    Q: Are they OEM?
A: Ummm I doubt it, but they are OEM design (Thus a good old reproduction - Expect the well known gold/silver oval sticker which says "Made in ....." <- like everything

Q: Does is have the cross bar?
    A: Apparently, yes

    Q: Are they well built?
A: No idea... time will tell, but are apparently Aluminium...so thats off to a good start (bamboo would not be as robust)

Q: How long will they take to get here?
A: No idea, it depends on if we can get a few people together. But I am not patient so if there are no takers...I'll still get them. (thankfully me and my FL2 are off to Moz, so I may be able to wait until 9 May (When I get back)

    Q: How much are they?
A: $138 a set (This excludes the shipping and Vat/duties) But still cheaper than getting them locally...

Q: Do you have a picture or link of the supplier?
A: Yes, I have a picture of how they look (like the oem one) and the link...but was worried about posting the link incase that's a no-no here

So there you have it, if you are keen pm me and let me know.

My next order will be a light bar of some kind to mount on the rack. I have yet to figure out which one I liked logic says the pencil beam ones ....(lol I think the 50" 17000Lumen one I saw may be a bit over kill for a FL2?) All the animals and people on the road would look like this at night -> ...and then shortly after would be like this -> 8) but with a stick or a dog.

Ok enough rubbish talk, pm me

Mine was fitted by Hannibal in Epping.
    Nice sturdy rack!!
Paid just less than 6k without the side rails an jerry can holders.
    Quite noisy though.

Thanks guys, appreciate it. I am looking for the original factory type, I guess I should call it roof bars with crossbar? Anywho that's what I am after for now, eventually I'll look at the font runner type. Trevor's, where you not in front of us at the Landy Festival? I was the bloke who climbed into your tent to close it up when the rain came? (I would have been behind you with the caravan) ?

I've priced these roof rails in China and the price is good at $91 the problem is the shipping fee at $285. I'm assuming that if one purchases a few of these and spreads the shipping fee it works out more cost effective. I'm in Cape Town so if there are any other Freelander 2 owners in my area who would be interested to come in with me...

    Hi Doug,

My messages above are to see if anybody else would like to come in on an order with me. I'm just guessing at this stage but would assume that if there are 3 or 4 of us the spread of the shipping fees would make this a viable option. I've just sent an email off to China to see what the shipping will be for 3 sets of rails.

I've received a reply with a quote for 3 sets and the total including shipping, vat etc works out to around R3000 per set. So if anyone is interested let me know. It would make things a lot simpler if you are Cape Town based.
