    Default Verification Zambia border crossings

We are doing a ‘roundtrip’ SA-BOTS-ZIM-ZAM in October. Many borders to cross. According to this wonderfull forum I understand that I need the following documents and budget for de Zambia border crossings. Can you people verify this for me and correct it where needed. All is based on two people and one SA rental car.

Zambia Border Crossings (all within 10 days):
1st in via VicFalls / Livingstone and out via Kariba
2nd in via Chirundu and out via Livingstone / VicFalls

-Police clearance certificate (Kariba / Chirundu), (via rental company?)
-Temporary Import Permit, (via rental company?)
-Third Party Insurance, US$ 30 (only once?)
-Carbon Tax, US$ 15 (only once?)
-Road Tax, US$ 10 (only once?)
    -2x double entry / 2 persons (2*80), total US$ 160

The above is from the ZA Automobile Association website. Not exactly sure if it is 100 percent applicable to foreign visitors, hopefully it will give you an idea of what is required.

Also note the Yellow Fever inoculations that are required for Zambia.

    Enjoy!

The TIP is issued by customs at the border. It isn't something that your hire company can do.

There will also be a local council tax to pay at the border. Make sure you tell them you are travelling over all of Zambia, even if you aren't. I can't remember if this is for the road tax or the council tax.

Police clearance is only for entry into Zimbabwe. There is no such requirement for entry into Zambia.

    Cool

    Hi,

In addition to the costs you mentioned:

    - Cross border fee: US $ 20

Carbon Tax dépends on engine capacity, I think (remember) US $ 30 for 2,500 cc (Defender).

An interesting discussion with the officials is whether you have to pay for Carbon Tax, Cross Border fee and / or coucil levy each time you enter Zam or whether these (espescially Carbon Tax) are valid for 90 days (as written on it)..

Last time I had a double entry visa, I managed to go through at L' Stone without paying a secontdtime after a long discussion.

I do not know whether it will work for Chirundu, I am not so optimistic..

    Cheers..
