Check the transfer-case mountings.

Hello Suzuki community
I've busy test driving a 97 2l V6 Vitara that I might take over, however, I've run into a few issues...
The main one being that I can't get the gear lever to "stick" in 4L. It just keeps popping back into N. I had it looked at by a mechanic who told me that the engine has been mounted too far forward and that the lever can't get into 4L as it's knocking up against the body.
I've never heard of this as an issue, and I'm wondering if there's not something else that's causing this? Has anyone else run into this problem or have any suggestions on what to look for? Could there be a problem with the prop shaft instead?
Thanks!
