I intend using mild steel for the framework. What is your opinion on that?

Christo, mild steel will work, but you pay a price in terms of the extra weight that you will carry around. I built my very first attempt out of 3 mil x 25 angle iron and believe me, it is quite heavy.

Best is to try and work out how much material you will need and then calculate the difference in weight. Apart from that, no reason that you cannot use mild steel.

The one advantage is that you can then experiment until you get to the proper setup - nothing easier to just cut and weld!

Phoned for prices today , you only get the 1430mm slide in the heavy duty at R 1200 a set. The setup I want to do I need 3 sets , R 3600 for slides is a bit rof.

You need to offset this against what a manufacturer is going to ask you. Have a look at the link above.

Maybe try a design where you can add on later? Start with a single set.

Thanks for the link , it looks good but the problem i have is not building the system or to get a design but mainly the fact that you don't get a 1430mm slide in a medium or light duty . The design i have will only need one set of heavy duty slides and two sets of lighter ( hope fully cheaper ) slides.
Suppose if i use the heavy duty then it will just last longer .
