Default Question on Tent that fits over back of bakkie/canopy

    Hi,

Th wife came home from diving at Miracle Waters today and said she had seen a tent that fitted onto the back of the bakkie and canopy (the tailgate of the bakkie is effectively is the back of the tent).

When I asked the make she said "kay, umm kah, umm, it was nice, oh it was black"

So does anybody out there have a clue what she might have seen?

    Thanks

    Doug,

If you page pack in the SA4x4 you will get a glimpse at them. They were also displayed at the Getaway (or what ever that show was called at the Dome)

Let me know if you dont come right. I have the past issues all stacked away.

I seem to remember a figure of about 30k all up fitted

Thanks, will look through those I'v got, but mine are only from this year. I don't recall seeing anything like it.

I remember the canopy that folds out to a tent but nothing that extends out from the back of the vehicle.

I had a look on google and found that nissan has made one, didn't find it onthe Nissan site though.

    Found this Pic

Missus says the one she saw didn't have the side door but basically just extended out from the vehicle so when you go in the entrance, you are looking at the back of the vehicle.

    Cheers

There is a crowd called "Union canvas" here in Durban who make them. The picture I saw was a bouble cab, and this "Tent" seemed to extend the bin, making it big enough to sleep in. They will actually make what you want. No I don't have shares, just a very satisfied customer.

    Doug

Also have a look at the Oztents, I see from the website that they pitch the tent's awning over the back of the vehicle.

I think 1 get moreinfo from the SA OZtent site (also considering the oztent after wanting an RTT for long) - think an OZtent will suite my needs more.

I asked about this several months ago and one of the guys came back with a name and a pic of a tent like what you're looking for. Unfortunately I did a search and couldn't find it. But somewhere hidden in the depths of the forum are details of the tent you're looking for.

    Default Extend-A-Cab

Spoke to Union Canvas in Durban and they sent me the attached.

It's c;lose but not quite, The tent seen was a full tent that connected to the bakkie like the extend-a-cab does.

DougN, did the bakkie have a canopy on or did the tent canvas cover the whole loadbin area of the bakkie? I'm asking because you get something like this as an accessory for the Rigidek loadbin cover. Have a look here: http://www.rigidek.co.za/portale/flashindex.html
It does look a little small for sleeping, but in some cases you can let down the tailgate and zip that up as well. Doesn't look like they're catering for all manufacturers yet though.

Edit: Sorry, scratch that. I noticed now, you said it was a full tent, ie something on the ground, but attached to the rear of the bakkie, right?

I found the thread that I spoke about. But the pic looks similar to what has been posted here already

    Hi Stadleroux,

The bakkie had a canopy on it. The concept is the same as the one I posted previously, the picc with the white Nissan.

The canopy & Bakkie basically become the back/side wall of the tent.

    Hi Spike,

    Found this in that thread.

Now all I need is to find somebody who can make it or something similar.

Thanks again guys for all the ideas and input.

    Hi Doug,

May I enquire why you want the tent to fit onto/over the bakkie?

    Compromise !!

if I had to cover my ideas and the wife's nd the kids etc, I would end up with 5 tents.

This solution seems to be the best overall compromise.
