Are you traveling on a South African passport?
Ethiopia is your biggest challenge. For the last 2 years or so they have enforced a strict rule that visas for overland travel can only be issued in the applicant's home country. If you have residency in Kenya it may be possible to get one in Nairobi. In fact even if you haven't try this first as in recent months there have been reports of a few overlanders managing to get one in Nairobi anyway. Otherwise most overlanders traveling north on extended trips courier their passport back to their home embassy from Kenya. BTW if you fly into Bole airport you will get a visa on entry (90 days) but that's not much use if you have a car.
Sudan is straightforward unless you are American - same day in Nairobi. Also possible in Addis but slightly more red tape.
Egypt you can get in Nairobi or Addis or Khartoum but easiest to get on the ferry to Aswan. The immigration officer is on the boat.
thanks for the refreshing info on sunadese and ethiopian visas. we will be travellling on south Afrucan passports and if what you say is correct this is great news that we can get our sudan visas in one day in nairobi!
our passports are already with the egyptian embassy so that one should be fine.
