Do you want to fill the tanks with distilled water?
|
Hello,
I have just been reading all threads about water purification as preparation on a long overland trip. I understand that everyone uses different methods. But it seems that all the purification/filtering is done after the water tank. I don't understand this: I would prefer to this before the water goes into my water tank (80 liter in Prado), so that I always have clean water to use.
Am I missing something or can anyone respond who also does this?
Thanks!
Regards,
Evelyn

Ag I do both, I chuck Miltons or iodine tabs into the main tank depending on where I fill up, and then purify further or boil on its way out. If I use the main tank for washing I know it will be at least somewhat treated without going through filtering.

Drinking water from plastic storage tanks never tastes nice anyway, I find you always have that plastic taste. I only use it for washing and occasionally for cooking

How much miltons would you put in a 45l SS tank?

Why not just fill the tank up with RO or pre-purified water? I'm just asking, have no experience with this personally...

Aha what about a filter to get the taste out. Like one of those filters you put on the taps under the kitchen sink. Anyone tried that.
Jeep, there is only one.

No amount of filtration will remove a plastic taste. Activated charcoal removes organics that can contribute to poor tasting water, but will not remove the plastic taste. You need to mask it with cordial, carbonation, a lime and some gin.

The more gin, the less you notice the taste!

There are several ways how you can do - depending on budget and convenience...

Dunno if suggested but what about 10% gin in the tank at all times?
