Just received the pricing from lonely oaks , they can accommodate us on the friday evening , have a restaurant on site as well as a pub. think it a good place to meet , rates at 300 single and 250 sharing and could be better if more share a family chalet. please let me no if u are ok with this and lets make the bookings!

from Potties to the trail is about 80km , not sure how far it is from the drift , but then the drift is about 35 km north of Potties, so maybe six or half a dozen of one or the other ...?

    Hi Guys,

Theo and I would like to get to know all prior to the trip, driving to Potties and all the way to Carnage won't work so well for us...

In any case, we can join you at Die Drift on the Friday night for the "ken mekaar", sleep at home (behind Ma se boude) and then meet you Saturday morning sparrow on the way to Carnage.

So yes, all please book their camping/chalets directly at Die Drift, or wherever else.

You would drive from Die Drift to Polokwane and then East to Carnage. According to BaseCamp it is 64.3km and takes roughly an hour to drive.

From Potties to Carnage is 80km and takes one hour and ten minutes to drive.

It would be awesome if we had a support vehicle on the service road, to leave our doors with.

Guys can we get back to the planning stage? we need concensus as to where we will have the meet & greet for the Friday evening. suggestions at this stage is LONELY OAKS, THE DRIFT & I have a place in P burg , Pafuri guest lodge, rate are more or less 200-250 pps. Pafuri is in town , have a nice lapa and braai .
As things stand now we need to make n desison for friday, 1, We decide on one place and meet there , 2, Can the meet & greet and make individual plans , meet at the entrance to carnage.
I for one would like to do the meet & greet and if we need to drive back threw P burg on saturday morning staying in town would be a better bet! If i am not mistaken , Pafuri is very close to the road to carnage , maybe only a 45 km drive to the trail head!

We don't have to all sleep at the same place. All we need is a getogether spot for Friday evening. I'm okay with anything in a 100km radius from Potties.

The Drift sounds like the most viable option. What is the options for accommodation there?

All three of the places have the same options, cost about the same. Difference is in the distance to the trail head, Lonely oaks is in Potties and 80 km to trail, the drift 17 km from P burg and 67 odd to trail , Pafuri in Pburg , and only 45 km from trail. In my opinion Pafuri would be the best choice, we can all book in their, have a great meet and greet! and then get a fairly early start on friday morning. just my opinion!

PS are we going to make/ take along equipment to "build a bridge " to get past dead dog gorge if the need arises? can we add the idea to the planning list? and lastly should we start a new thread for the final planning or just carry on with this one and plan along as we go? please remember that although we drive our own vehicle its a team effort to get all of them to the beach, so we need to plan things in order for each to no what to take along , we do not want to be in a situation and say " Eish" i have that strap in my store room if only i had packed it!

    Hi Guys,

Theo knows the owner of Die Drift personally, reason being why we recommended the place. This was also recommended, as it just makes it easier for the "ken mekaar" on Friday evening.

Anyhow, nothing stops anybody from arranging & choosing their own accommodation.

There are literally hundreds of accommodation options in and around Polokwane.

Theo & I will be leaving from South Gate Country Lodge (S23.96569 E29.45441) on Saturday morning at exactly 06:00.

You can stay at http://www.southgatelodge.co.za/ South Gate Country Lodge as well.

So anybody that wants to join us for the road trip, can tag along.

For those that arrive on their own, we will be starting Carnage at precisely 07:00.
