    Default Another V8 Build ?

Maybe another V8 build om its way. My Ford 4.0l Super Cab decided to slip its timing chain while stationary. The wife told me on Thursday afternoon that she tried to start it, but the battery was flat. I give no thought as I was in a hurry and told her to take the DC. Try to start it on Friday but it only swing a few times before the battery run out. Put the charger on and tried again later. It did start after swinging for some time but running very rough. Tackled the job Monday night. First thought it might be the fuel pump. Measured pressure and it seems fine. Ignition timing was spot on with the motor running. My gut feeling was telling me from the start valve timing. Took of the Tappet covers today an found the right hand cam not turning. Look like a loose timing sprocket on the balance shaft,
Now the decision, do I repair the 200k km engine or do I drop in a mildly tuned 302 V8 ? Do not know if it have bend valves which is usually the case.

I really enjoyed this 4.0l. Feel a little sad as this is the first ever Ford engine to let me down in all the years I drove Fords.

Guess I have to find out the prices first.

I think you have bent valves.

    Pull the heads.
    Overhaul them.
    Put them back.

So bietjie agtergrond. Wynand jy weet mos slegs True Blue. Pieter jy weet wat maak `n leŽ enjin bay met my. Johann as ek so netjies soos Rotor kon werk het ek `n Lexus oorweeg..

MMM. Kom ek sien. My 1975 1600GL Escort.
Weber 36 DCD Gas. (Was nie geld vir side drafts nie )
    Pancake air filter.

Standard 30S se m%@r van robot to robot. Man by die werk het my eendag probeer haak met sy Charade Turbo. Hy het nooit weer probeer nie.

Die goeie ou dae toe mens nog aan 'n enjin kon werk....................... Dis hoekom ek jou so beny Christo. Sal my Kaap trippie kanselleer

I finally made a decision. Ford 302 with alu heads ,roller cam and Holley Off Road carb will replace the 4.0L SOHC. I am not going to build a torquer motor like the 347. With a nice cam and the other goodies 260kw can be easily extracted from the 302 before it will get to cammy.
On the gearbox side it is either a Ford AOD auto or Borg Warner T5.
Depending on which has the best adapter kid for an NP 205 transfer case.
The rear diff is a Gearmax copy of the Ford 8.8 inch and will be able to handle the power and torque. The front diff has to go. This was always the weakest link in the 4.0l`s drive system. It will make place for an Dana 44 IFS. Yes I am going to keep the IFS set up. My hands are starting to itch to get rid of all the fancy tronics. Just think a Ranger with manual selected free wheel hubs. Gone is the 4x4 switch. Now battling to select 4x4 when needed.
The idea is that the Ranger will still be used as a daily driver.
As its got a Big Brother which I have build for the serious stuff , the tyre size will not exceed 31 x 12.5.
    Now sourcing the right stuff.

    Wynand sien jy true blue.
