Default How to "open" a Dragon radio?

    All

I have a Dragon two way radio. It only has channels 1, 8 and 23....

    Any ideas?

Open the radio, and make sure you don't rip off the speaker when you open it.

    1. There is a small button on the circuit board. Press and hold it while you switch the radio on.
    2. It will show 88 and then go to a flashing 1
    3. Rotate the knob and select the channel you want to program
    4. Press the button once and it should flash faster now (if I remember right)
    5. Then rotate the knob to the frequency you want (check the chart in the book)
    6. Press the button again to save it
    7. Once it is saved it will now flash slower again and you can repeat step 3 onwards for all the channels.
    8. Simply switch the radio off and on again and it should be open.

    I simply went:
Select channel one, press button, press button again, select channel two, press button and press again, etc. This programs channel 1 to the frequency of channel 1, channel 2 to channel 2, etc. That way all the radios should be the same.

If it is the older one you would have to cut the diodes

I've got an older one and it had to be tackled with a soldering iron apparently.

    Big Red you need 1, 2, 7, 14, 15, 16 for offroading.

Kai, I've got the book at home if you want to borrow it. It's pretty simple if it's one of the newer models.

Thanks guys. I eventually found the book for the radio and together with all the info gotten here, I'm sure I'll come right.

    Thanks guys

I was going to mention that I find the best tool for the job would be a Star screwdriver, but I am sure that is not what you meant...

PS: You do know that you are not supposed to do this, dont'cha?

Heh... I couldn't remember if a "Philips" screwdriver is spelt with one "L" or two, ...or whether Kai may have needed a "Pozidrive" screwdriver!....

Reminds me of the warranty seals on the Sinclair Spectrum :-)

Nobody would ever dare break them to get to the screw heads, would they ? heh heh
