    Default electric mirrors

    Hi ,
I am not sure if the specs are the same in Africa as UK, but here goes.
My Discovery 2 Td5 ES, 2003 facelift model has heated folding mirrors.
and they have devolped a woble when driving at speed worse in windy
conditions, have been told it might be a worn spring type washer,
Has anyone had this problem and if so short of raplaceing the whole unit has anyone managed to fix the problem and if so how?
I dont want to risk pulling mirror to bits without some idea what to do as i will probably end up with broken mirror.
Hope someone out there can help.

    Regards Stephen

Our mirrors are the same design.

What wobbles? Is it the whole ear or just the glass?

If the glass, it might be dislodged. It clips in and can sometimes unclip. It will also respond poorly to adjustment in this case.
Just remove it carefully- establish which side if the glass is loosest, then push the mirror gently towards the tighter side and it should pop out. You'll then see the clips and how they work and you can clip it in again.

No mores the pity, its the whole plastic housing from where it pivets, it doesnt wobble loads, but its got about half inch of play at hindge end of housing. its how the hinge assembly works or can be repaired that i need some idea on, an expolded diagram would be perfect but i doubt such a thing exsists

    Not seen one wobble there.
Have you reset the position? ie: put mirror adjustment knob to middle setting and push down and cycle the mirrors back to position.

    Default Wobble

Yes they both fold and open fine it seems to be ware on both mirrors where they swivel from, you can move them a little with no effort before you meet any resistence, was hoping someone out there had come across this. i have heard of someone in the uk but they just replaced the full units, expensive! i hate to bin somthing with what seems a minor fault that shouldnt be to hard to fix, if i knew how to sepeate the housing from the base with out damageing it that would be half the battle,

I stand under correction, but the folding mirrors are for the Japanese market.

I had 2 non facelift ES models, both auto. One TD5, one V8. Both had it. Very handy when you brush a bush and the mirror folds away- you just cycle it and its back in place

I see the mirror button has a function that you can push it in when in centre position. apparently this how you would fold the mirrors.
