Default Shipping from Dakar to Walvis Bay/ Cape Town

Friends of ours are currently in Senegal as they travel the west side down to South Africa from the UK. Due to the political situations in the area and the lack of visa availability they are looking to ship their vehicle southwards. They are not meeting with much success mainly they think because it is a single vehicle. Have any of you good folks any info that will help them otherwise they are even considering returning to Europe and shipping from there with MACS.

Despite all the views no one has been able to help us however by using other methods we have found out that Grimaldi shipping will ship from Dakar to Luanda, Safmarine will ship from Dakar via Spain to Walvis Bay and Delmas shipping Co, ship to Cape Town. I add this information foer anyone in a similar situation to my friends.

Google " Cargo Consolidators -Senegal " and you will find a few options.

Thanks Duncan but they've already made their arrangements from the above.

    Good.
Met a couple Sunday who have taken 8 months to get here down the West route ftom Switzerland ! Borders were ok they said but the biggest hassle was police roadblocks with bribes in all countries.

I thought I'd give an update!

Margaret kindly put out feelers for us, but at the end of the day it required us physically banging on doors to get sorted! Phonecalls and emails were pretty much ignored ...

We eventually used Delmas shipping. It was supposed to be a 17 day route from Dakar - Abidjan - Cape Town.

Unfortunately, it was 'incorrectly' transhipped in Abidjan and then went to Pointe Noire (via every other west African port) then transshipped to Cape Town.

    A very long 40 ish days ...

But it all arrived in brilliant condition - so no major complaints!

    kind regards

    @ Girl Child,

At the cost of shipping, maybe you should have abandoned the vehicle! Unless it is a VERY special car, shipping costs will likely almost match the car's value...

    and

HELLO MARGARET!! How are you guys doing? I now live in Windhoek, but if ever you should come by this way again, it will once again be my pleasure and priviledge to Meet and Greet!

@Gert - no chance. It was cheaper to ship the vehicle than drive it down actually! And certainly a lot less than the cost of replacing the vehicle in SA.

I think it helps that shipping from west Africa to South Africa goes in the opposite direction that most goods flow, so in effect we helped by moving a container.

I do hear, though, that shipping from SA to other places in Africa is rather expensive ...
