Talking Trip from Cape Town to KNP

    Hello Everyone,
I did a trip to Namibia last year and I want to travel up to the KNP in about July/August.
My intention is to go from Cape Town to St Francis Bay and then up to the Golden Gate Park and then around to The Drakensberg, on to Durban up through Swaziland and into the park and then back home. I would like to keep away from the main roads so the itenarary is not fixed as yet what I would like from the members is any advice on camping sites that are nice and also quite secure as my wife and I are on our own. I would appreciate any input here. Thanks in advance.

July August will be freezing cold in the GG.
The parks campsite is very nice and never overcrowded.

Thy also have nice chalets if its to cold.

I think nowadays you can also sleep in Basotho huts.

I can recommend the Waaidam Resort in Harrismith,
    http://www.wheretostay.co.za/waaidam/
its a very quiet working farm they offer also camping,
if you go there tell Willem regards from the two Germans
with the red Mitusbishi. They have good meat.

    Swaziland:
A must stay is Royal Hlane NP, from there you can do
a day drive to Mkhaya, the nice thing is,
the Big Game Parks are part of the Wildcard.

Mkhaya does not offer camping, you will meet at the gate,
park your car and go there with their vehicle.

Its worth to spend a night or two in their Stone Camp.

Thank you very much for your input, Southerndreams. I will definately have a look at this. By the way, half of my heart is also in the Kgalagadi.

One more trip and the other half is there as well!

By the way, why don't you go through Lesotho on the way in?
From Wepener to Malealea Lodge (take a rondavel) and from there
via Ficksburg to Golden Gate? Very nive, easy drive, except the last few kms all on tar.
