    Default Ctek Charger

I need to connect my batteries in my offroad trailer to a good charger. I am looking to buy a Ctek xs7000 as this will be sufficient for the 2 x75Ah batteries. Where can I buy a Ctek charger in JHB at the best price.

You are probably looking at a minimum of about R1600 for a 7-amp CTEK charger.

Consider the Benton Charger, discussed at this thread:
    http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/...ad.php?t=13222

You could buy two of them (they're only rated at 3.8A) and use one for each battery at less thanh half the price of a CTEK 7000.

Phone Valtrac 05681 77308. Speak to Rheinie for a very good price. I got mine from him.

I just saw one (CTEK XS7000) at the local "Cash Convertors" brand new, never used for R800-00 .

I use the 12Amp charger from www.bushpower.co.za it is a 3way charger and is cheaper than the 7 amp CTEK. Have a look on the website or speak to Renzo.

    Default Ctec Charger

I have the 3.6A Ctech charger permanently installed on my trailer on a 75Ah bat. Work like a dream. Can leave the batery connected to it permanently, it will cycle charge the battery, trigle charge it, discharge and charge it automaticly. It is an IP 65 enclosure i.a. waterproof dust proof etc.Mine is mounted on the outside of the trailer with only the required mechanical protection.

Been using a CTEK XS 3600 on 102 battery for many years...no problems.
When the battery is removed and is left permanently connected to the XS 3600.

Yes, I'd be very interested in the reasoning as well. If this is indeed the case, how come C-Tek originated a Court Case preventing Benton from selling in Sweden due to so-called 'patent infringement'...

There's nothing wrong with the C-Tek charger (although my C-Tek 7000 packed up within its first year - it was replaced) but there's nothing inferior about the Benton either!

I have both Ctek and Benton chargers, as well as some others, and, being in the electronics R&D field, have designed a few chargers over the years myself.

I have a good working knowledge of the methods required to effectively and safely charge various different types of batteries.

With chargers like the Ctek and Benton units, the charging process is a sophisticated one monitored by microcontrollers within the chargers and the charging "method" is defined by the firmware running in those microcontrollers.

I'm very interested to know if anyone knows, and I mean really knows, not just anecdotally, whether the Ctek chargers are better than the Benton units, or the other way around, and why this is so.

This is a serious question and the answer/s will, hopefully, be of use to most of us on this forum who rely quite heavily on batteries of various types.
