    Talking Basecamp Tips / Questions

    Hi All,

I am starting this thread to get a list of FAQ about what you struggle with using Basecamp.

Please also pitch in with Basecamp functionality that you found that might be helpfull to others.

    Let me start with this:

Do you know how to search for the intersection of two streets in Garmin Basecamp?

Use the Find "Address" near "Suburb" containing "Street name 1 and/& Street name 2" then click search.

    Regards,

    Default Enter/Find/GoTo Coordinates.

You have the co-ordinates - where is it on the map?

This had me puzzled for a long time... but here it goes:

    Press 'Ctrl' + 'T'.

The "ReCenter Map" will pop up.

    .

Enter your co-ordinates and click "Create Waypoint"

    Done!

    Default Merge/Join tracks

You can merge/join several tracks/routes to form one.

    a) Select the tracks you want to join together by holding down the CTRL (control) key and clicking on them,

    b) Once selected, right click on them to bring up the menu,

    c) Select 'Advanced' and then 'Join selected tracks'

This will merge/join all the selected tracks into one large track.

What is the secret on sending new way points/routes to a device.
I will plug in my Garmin, and it will show the Garmin under devices.
I will then send a route or way point to the device.
I will show on basecamp that it is there, but when powering up the Garmin, it is not.

If I them plug the Garmin in again, the new way point shows in basecamp under the device.

I will then have to repeat the process 3 or 4 times before it actually shows on the Garmin.

Do you properly disconnect the Garmin by clicking disconnect USB device in Windows as this should ensure that all outstanding stuff to be written is written to the device before it is disconnected.

I did use the eject option in basecamp, but not in windows. Will try that next time.

Basecamp is database driven, which is why it differs so much from Mapsource. Once you have an understanding of how it organizes data it becomes easier to make use of it.

I have waypoints saved. But I need to know what the coordinates for these are? Or the co-ords for a specific point on a map on Basecamp. How do I find this? Is it possible?

    Please help.

I tried to write an entire holiday's worth of routes to my 2460 which, according to Basecamp, worked okay, but when I disconnected the device and powered the 2460 on again, there was sometimes only one and sometimes none, routes on the device. In the end, I transferred all thirteen of them, one at a time....pain in the butt, I tell ya.

Would not disconnecting the device properly from Windows, cause the routes to not be written and recognised?

With your Waypoints panel open (as per attached image), right click on a waypoint and select "Open". A panel will open which will give you all the details of that waypoint, including the GPS coordinates.....hope that helps.

I am looking at scheduling a course for March in Gauteng. Who will be available and also supply dates that will suite you.

    Hi Steven,

I see the new release of basecamp has a fix for when basecamp would not sync with devices.

I would give it a try. Your issue might be resolved.
