    Default Easter weekend

    Hi guys

Would it be worth making a trip up to Botswana for the Easter weekend?

Is it going to be extremely busy, if not, where would you go?

I have never been across so am not familiar with routes or accommodation, just toying with the idea right now.

We'll be going but I haven't got a clue as to wether it'll be busy or not. Remember busy in Botswana is kind of relative. We've booked Savuti, Ihaha and Nxai Pans for a short week starting at Easter sunday. When we booked at the end of August all campsites were available and seeing we got campsites #1 in both Savuti and Nxai, I'd assume it's not high season.

Try Khama Rhino Sanctury and then Kubu Island.

The only place you must then book is Khama Rhino.

Gasman also recommended Khama. I think that's going to be the plan then.

I'm planning to spend 3 nights in khutse. I toyed with the idea to go to kubu. But decided on khutse for the plain fact that I only want to pitch my tent once. A weekend away and not a road trip. 570km from my house. Can drive there in a day.

    Khutse,

    Or even Mabuasehube.

Agree, pitch up your tent once and enjoy the weekend.

Khutse will be busy over easter, as will most of the parks. If you are looking for a quieter trip, dont plan on travelling over public holidays. Also, be prepared for long border queues over the Easter weekend.

Plan to get there really early, so I hope that will help with the time at the border...

Vra gerus. (en terloops, lekker vleis te koop daar.)

    Hi Mark,
The campsites for Khutse are full over the Easter period already, but there are a couple campsites here and there for Kubu and then Nxai, Moremi, Ihaha .. but they are filling up fast.

+1 I would rather go for root canal surgery than cross a Botswana border post over Easter. I have changed my travel plans for April 2014 just because Easter falls right in our holidays.

    Question Kubu island

I am also considering a trip via Kubu Island just before Easter. We have been there before in August when it was dry. I am concerned about it being too wet at the end of March. Has anyone got some advice about travelling there at this time of the year. I have also now changed vehicles and we have got a RAV4. It will be our 1st trip in a soft 4x4. Any advice/comments? I have confirmed there is camping available at this time.

Kubu is accessible at the moment, even after the heavy rains we had (which the sun is soaking up quick). Most people are just making sure they follow the tracks (the tracks have a layer of gravel and even through water crossings, this helps having some gravel underneath you as opposed to sand/mud) and put your car in low range if you're unsure. We haven't had much rain in the last 2 weeks, and forecasts looks sunny with patchy rain.. the best thing to do is to check again at the end of this month, we'll see what the rain does and sure some drivers will have driven through this month to update us.
