I came back from a trip in Namibia and Botswana last week with my new Ranger 2.2. Performed very well, but when I took it in for a service they told me my brake shoes and drums were damaged by mud.
I'm not sure whether this is a general problem or specific to the vehicle. Should I open up and clean my brakes every time I drive in mud/deep water?

Unfortunately this is a general problem with drum brakes and also disc brakes to a lesser extent. Nothing to do with a specific brand.
That is very normal. Just make sure the shoes have enough linings on them. Otherwise, no worries.

Mud is a real problem with espesialy brakes. I try and keep out of it as much as I can. Water is not n problem. When we had a lot of rian in Hoedspruit and I did mud driving for a few days my brakes where gone. They get between the linings and drums and disks and pads and just grind them away. But this was contant thick mud.
