I like my stunt kite. Always keeps you on your toes. Been wanting to bye a foil now for a while, but it is pretty low on my outdoor priority list!

Second picture looks like De Kelders to me ? Sewing the last panel closed on a foil is quite interesting.

Seems as if you know the area,

Yes it is in your back yard at Uilkraal mond next to Franskraal in Gansbaai. Interesting is if the foil is an 11m low aspect baby with 3months of sewing and 130kg dacron for rigging lines only to find out that you can only fly it in light breezes otherwise you risk ending up in China and even then you are more airborne than on the ground without jumping on purpose.. Crazy but FUN.

The foil looks very nice, those colours will go down well with the Americans. Very patriotic.

These revolution Kites were made by two of our friends to fly as a team.

That is a lot of precision sewing, looks great, I like the stacked setup been wanting to try this for a while maybe it won't be so strenuous on the flyer as the foil types.

    Hi Hbannik

Sorry was out on Saturday and Sunday, doing a hectic night drive.

The sewing is quite easy , I have made quite a few stunt kites and a few foils but since discovering 4x4 this has taken a back seat.

Kites Rock but 4x4 is better

Agree but the sewing experience comes in handy when making awnings or modifying tents and as a bonus the fabric does not slip as much under the foot

I love flying kits, my dad has 4 flexifoil kites (2 string) that on occasion when we feel daring we stack, and i must admit, there is nothing better... We also have a 13ft fuel kite (4string) which my dad bought for me to go kite boarding with, and he has a 16ft (5 string) formula 1, and when that thing picks you up, you cannot get a bigger rush, I will recommend flying kites to anyone! That brings me to my next point, is there an area near J'burg to go kite boarding?

Took my 10ft Flexifoil out into some strong wind this last weekend. I have always wondered how fast these kites fly as they really move in a good wind?

Decided to find out. Tied my small handheld GPS in a padded camera bag to the kite (reset dist and max speed to 0).

In the few minutes it was up, it traveled over 4km and max speed was 168km/h

I love it when these old threads gets dug up!

Well, my post above was in Oct 2007, it took me a looooong time, but I've eventually had my first kite lesson! The first lesson was 3m2, the next one will be with a 7m2, then onto most probably about 12m2 then the fun starts!

Is a kite, a kite, a kite? or are you going to laugh at me when I say I bought two stunt kites from Game, two years ago and we have not managed once to get either airborne despite our best efforts.

Take an 'expert' with - maybe the kite is upside down?

Great sport and when the kite pulls back, it is a very good work out!

Second lesson today, wind blowing 20-25knots, 7m2 kite, never knew how much power that thing has! So part of the training is to launch it upside down, directly in the full power zone, so the kite goes up, and wham there I fly through the air! Now I can only imagine when I move onto the 12m2!
