Quick question, would a LR 2.5tdi D90 cope with going to the dunes, most of the pics I see are of big V8's etc.

Come on Carel, even Bugs will be embarrassed with that video. Hobbits with standard Jimneys can do that ant hill. Where is the drifting stuff, Gunhog is going to rev us for not performing.

Hoffie I must edit them a bit, the files are way to big with the length of clips that I have on the iPad, the mweb server will bomb if I load them before editing

Was an awesome day in the dunes on Sunday. Ran into DavidA on the way out.

    Hi guys,

I am a newby and would love to do the dunes. I have done Klein Helderberg Blue and Red route on my own and would also love to meet 4X4 friends. Join a club or not??
Can one get acess to the dunes on weekends or only on Friday afternoons?

Hi Marius. You can access the dunes any day of the week. Just need to get a permit from Atlantis municipality.

Thank you very much Jono1981. How easy is it to get such a permit?

    Marius,

Getting the permit is easy. Just go to the municipality and buy it.
But getting lost or stuck or falling over is also easy, so don't go alone.

Either join us on a Friday, or start a thread to get a group together.

Hi What would as a general rule in dry conditions be the appropriate gear for going up and down the dunes in a 2007 Defender td5 with traction control and diff lock and BFG AT at 0.9 bar? Low range second?

No, probably 3rd, in my Puma I even use 4th let the turbo do the work around 2.5 to 3000 rpm, don't over rev it.

It's a lot different in a diesel, will take some getting used to. Enjoy!

It doesn't really matter, with BFG AT at 0.9b you won't be getting very far up anything

FWIW- way more momentum than your V8. You need to hit bottom of the dune at about 3000-3500rpm in whatever gear you choose. Once you've dropped below 1500, it's game over.
