Default Namib/Richtersveld Itinerary and travel advice

    Hi

We are leaving on Thursday night for a straight through drive from Cape Town to Swakopmund (1900km) (Luckily for this stretch we have 4 drivers that will constantly be rotating duties in the cpt seat!)

From there on we will be trekking down through the Namib and Richtersveld to Lambertsbay. It will only be my wife and myself in the the Tuna from here on. This will be our 1st trip of such sorts so I want to check that I have all my bases covered.

    Our Itinerary is as follows:

13 Dec - Depart from CPT to Swakop
    14 Dec - Swakop -Friends
    16-Dec - Solitaire - Namib's Valley of a Thousand Hills
17 Dec - Sesriem - Sossusvlei Oasis Camp
    18 Dec - Luderitz - Kairos Cottage
    19 Dec - Richtersveld - Tatasberg
21 Dec - Namaqua Nature Reserve - (Any advice on where to camp?)
    22 Dec - Lambertsbay - Lambertsbaai Hotel

Any advice on this itinerary, especially if the time frames are doable, I'm most worried bout the trek from Luderitz to Tatasberg?? Is this doable in a days drive?

Secondly, Would it be required to take extra diesel along on the trip? I've had mixed responses to this question, depending on who you speak to and would like to get some clarity on this? We're in a 3.0 D4D 4x4 Tuna, not very heavily laden albeit for the spare on the roof which I imagine will eat a bit into the consumption. Should extra diesel be a necessity, how much extra? 20L ... 40L?

Any advice on the border crossing at Sendlingsdrift? Is there any special "requirements" I should take into consideration?

And lastly, any advice on a nice place to camp in or around the Namaqua Nature reserve area?

    Any advice is much appreciated!
