    Default Water Meter

I bought a Conqueror Commander recently. Comes with 150l water tank plus 30l in geyser, however no indication of consumption or amount of water left at any given time. This means that one could potentially run out when you can least afford it. Any ideas for a cheap resetable meter that tracks consumption or a water level meter that will work with the two flat plastic tanks, one mounted on an angle above a horizontally mounted belly tank.

Not sure how the setup work on your trailer but I once saw a guy put a T piece in the pipe from the tanks and then put in a clear plastic pipe onto the T and upwards where it is visible. As the water level inside the tank drops the water inside the clear plastic pipe also drop. With some effort I suppose you can even add exact volume to the tank 5l at a time and then make corresponding marks on the plastic pipe giving you exact water level when the van is parked level. The only thing that I am not sure of is if the pipe had some sort of venting cap at the top or was just left open. If it is not able to 'breath' the air will just stay trapped in there and won't show the waterlevel.

I hope this all makes sense!? I have not build something similar but the idea seemed excellent and not very expensive to do yourself.

    Hi CATs / Christo,

Is the jury still out about the Land Rover?
What is it, about a year now? Hang jury? Mistrail?

Or just afraid to say .... YES, this is it ! ! ! !

    Hi Cats,

Thanks, the tank has a breather pipe so the suggestion makes sense. Will certainly experiment with it.

Hi Cats your idea of a guage glass (plastic pipe) is a good idea. I had a thick piece of sponge attached to the top of the pipe with a cable tie to act as a filter and to allow it to breathe. Changed the sponge once a year. You could possibly be more scientific and use a small inline fuel filter or something similar to make it look neater.

put one of those cheap in-line fuel filters on the end to keep the dirt out.
get them at a spares shop.

Just plumb the end back into the top of the tank.

I would not trust it too much though, as it sounds like it is a flat tank. To get any accuracy in the readings the tank will have to be level.

Yes October is exactly one year! Your memory is excelent.!!
The Landy has been reliable so far but costly to keep on the road. (So far I had to replace the ECU(ZAR3500),both batteries due to a faulty DVD player that drained the batteries continuously(ZAR2000), The faulty DVD, various wires which could have been damaged while scratching around to get the battery drain diagnosed and it is only now going in for its first service since I bought it!! Oh yes and the auxilary diesel tank developed a leak and when it was fixed the pump pipe was bent closed so I had to take it back after figuring out that the pump was not faulty, only not getting diesel. So it has definately kept me busy!!

But it is a joy to drive and I do not regret buying it.
