I enjoyed the Commander I bought new in 2007 and had it for 4 years. I DIY fitted the grocery cupboard that only came with the later models. The project was both cool and scary at the same time......like the DIY fitment of the snorkel I did on my Hilux. As jy daar 'n fout maak sit jy met groot probleme.....

EDIT - waar is Ockert met sy pop top vir sy Commander.....

Bought me a old Safari from the this very forum a while ago. Had loads of rust and other problems. Took me some time but she is finally at a point where i am taking her on holiday end of the month.

What I did on the old lady:
Removed all rust and painted with Duram 88
    Replaced wheel bearings
Replaced all wires and lights (Indicator etc)
    Refurbed the steel table
    Fitted gas bottle
    Build new ladder
Bay awning (used the supra 6 x 6)
Fitted new seals on all the doors

    What i need to do
Build some kind of drawer system
    Finish the kitchen "box"
    Powder coat the wheels
    Fit 12v power and lights
Buy original sticker kit (R1300 approx)

But that will only happen next year.

I have replaced the crappy steady brackets on my comfort with decent jockey wheel brackets. Now it really works like a charm.

I have also not opted for the huge awning from Conqueror but had a custom awning made that is in part also heat reflective material. This is still a work in progress and we change as we learn. Next on the awning would be light weight canvas sides on the appropriate places and shadecloth (movable) side if and when needed

Who did the awning for you? and at what cost because i want to replace my l-awning and maybe extend it?
I am also thinking of making shadecloth sidewalls for a bit of privacy

Very happy with his work and service.

We maybe overdid it a bit (6.5mx7m ) but it is very nice once up. Cost us with extra telescopic poles R10.4k. More expensive than the Conqueror awning I know, but now we have a reflective sheet as well which is a lot cooler than the normal PVC L shape

Hi Nick iwe also have a courage and you have answered a question as what to do with the waisted space above the fridge, Quick question how have you mounted the sliders for the draw.
I have fitted place for 2 bats in the nose cone with a NL contoller which is connected to the vehicle when riding to keep the bats charged and brackets for a high lift jack just behind the wheels in cade a wheel change is required. They look as if they are part of the mud gaurds. No extra holes were drilled or anything welded to the chassis.
    Post some pics soon

Is the add-a-room part of the standard Conquest tent or is it from another manufacturer?

How does it attach to the roof?

    Thanks

Care to post a picture of that please?

I am also contemplating of having something larger that the L-shape awning, but maybe not as big as the 7x7 or your 7x6.5, more a U-shaped awning which you can anchor the same way as a full 7x7, i.e. on all four sides. My biggest objective is to have a canopy that spans over to top of the RTT to cover three sides (kitchen/left side and the nose and tail of the trailer, to steer water away from the trailer and to get rid of the velcro and wind factor of the L-shape awning. The L-shape awning is not covering the whole of left side and is irritating when rainwater coming from the left/front side ends up in that long part of the trailer above the grocery drawers. Don't need a full canopy on the RTT side.

    Default Courage mods

I bought a Courage in July and started my mods. Did a kitchen in one of the side doors and another to host the microwave at the back. I did not like the Conqueror tent and opt or the Howling moon one and had to make my own roof rack to get the correct height, which added allot more space. The area behind the fridge is also converted into a cupboard. My latest mod is a drawer above the fridge which will be installed before the holidays start. All these mods I had laser cut and bended which works like a charm and looks like the OEM did it.
