    Default Van Zyl's Pass

    Hi there

Well we did it , as I am sure a lot of of other 4x4 ers have done and it was very challenging. Just to get to the pass and leaving it is almost as bad as doing it. Lots of tyre damage on the sharp rocks.
But I will go back someday and try it again

Well done. There is an article in the "WegRy" or Drive Out on a couple of bikers that under estimated the place, did not have enough water and nearly ended up killing themselves to the point of some party members hallucinating etc.. Inhospitable desert. I'm jealous.

    Well Done!!!

I'm planning a similar trip in December. Planning the river road from Ruacana to Epupa, then down to V.Zyls, Purros, Sesfortein... Could you perhaps send me more details of your trip?

I'm particularly interested in distances traveled per day and fuel usage.

You can PM me, or email me on [email protected]

    Hi Freeflyd

Check out The Ruacana to Epupa thread for more details under Namibia, I will analyse my Gps and give you details next week, still recovering from the loong trip, at least the Bakkie is washed and polished already. Basically filled up at Ruacana to the brim, 82 litres of diesel and had 40 litres spare in two jerrycans. Ruacana to Epupa = 62k to Kunene + 98k to Epupa. From there it was another 475 km to Sesfontein via Purros Camp and Rooidrom but I will give you more details later. So used 92 litres to do 635 km's , works out to 6.9 km/litre very heavy normally I get 9km's to the litre.
But I was heavily loaded and most of that was in low range. You must take two spare tyres/wheels. Fortunately I did not have any punctures but had to give my second wheel to a Terracan who had four puntures and ruined 2 tyres ( No names no pack drill but Kumho was involved...) My Cooper STT's are basically ruined as well from the sharp rocks. Total Distance for me almost 7000km's and R6750 , 00 for diesel.

Welcome back Ashley, congratulations, hope you took many pics, and made a diary so that you can relive that memory many times over.
For many of us thatís just a distant dream.

Thanks AB , yes lots of photo's and video. Not sure about the STT's or ST , as I only have experience of the STT and would only use them.
