    Default Johannesburg to Maun Route?

    Hi All
I’m planning a trip to Moremi during October and I’m struggling to find out which is the best route to follow from Johannesburg to Maun?
There seem to be 3 possible routes: 1) Jhb west via –Kanye,Ghanzi-Maun, 2) Jhb north via Serowe,Orapa – Maun, 3) Jhb north via Francistown,Nata – Maun??
Any help & suggestions will be much appreciated!

Most people cross at Martins Drift, then head to Palapye - Serowe - Letlhakane - Rakops - Mopipi - Motopi - Maun.
On route you have the option to stay over at Khama Rhino Sanctuary (40kms from Serowe)
Alternative: Martins Drift - Palapye - Francistown - Nata - Gweta - Motopi - Maun.
Stay over at Nata Lodge or Planet Baobab in Gweta.

    My 2c worth.

    Jhb - N1 - N4 - Brits - Thabazimbi - Ellisras - Martin's Drift(Groblers brug) - Plapaye - Serowe - Orapa - Maun.

It is really the quietest route.

    Hi guys

Can jnb to Maun be done in 1 day? leaving 12pm I doubt it though

Which is the fastest Route? is Martins drift to Serowe the quickest/ quietest?

Also where would be a good stop off if we leave at 12
We will need to break the trip as we are afraid to drive at night there

Any comments are really appreciated and thanks!

Hi mikadoni. Dont even attempt this. Looking at your departure time (12pm) means you going to travel after sunset. This is a BIG no no. You are going to put your life at risk as all the other that travels with you. There is no fences in Botswana therefore animals all over the roads. It's a 1000/1300km from JHB to Maun and you doing it in a foreign country.

Why not travel Kevin's 1'st option as it shows to be the "fastest" route on T4A?

Would I make Serowe: Well, very likely but you won't have the time to enjoy - and less so to write home about as you will miss out on KRS alltogether.
You need a full day to make it worth the while.

Rushing it will kill the objective - I mean to write home about .

    Default Road trip to Maun

    Hi
My son and some friends are planning a road trip to Maun in January. We need some advise on routes from Johannesburg, overnight suggestions, and suggestions where it is worth their while to stop and spend some time on route there. Elphi

Dont drive in Bots at night!! Rather overnight at the border (Martins Drift - Kwa Nokeng has a good campsite and chalets, just on the Bots side of the border) ... Leave early the next morning and you will be in Maun by 15:00 latest. Or sleep over at Kham Rhinio if you can make it by sunset.

X 2. No driving at night.

At Palapye is Camp Ithumela. Nice rooms, chalets and camping. Also good food. Safe .

I have to drive the one night (Nate area). NEVER AGAIN.
