Personally i cant see it making a dent in the fortuner sales as the price is like 2-3 k different and can it really handle the african outdoors?

Let them try............but its a ridicules comparison. The tuna is originally a 7 year old design. It says a lot about the tuna if they want to compare a brand new model against it. I think the new models tuna and hilux ,not facelifts are coming out next year. Then we should compare design as the brand has already proved itself.

The Trailblazer looks like a really nice vehicle, but it is like bringing a new cola to the market and saying you want to take on Coke, there is just now way, even if the price was much lower than the Fortuner.

Die Trailblazer het low range, en lyk baie goed, maar ek vermoed mense sal steeds eerder vir die fortuner gaan + die Chev is ook duurder as die Tuna, so dit sou eerder sin maak om vir die Tuna te gaan

Mitsubishi made the same mistake with the Pajero Sport. If you want to take on the Fortuner you have to bring a vehicle that is much cheaper! Few people will switch to a more expensive model - why pay more? Also the Fortuner has got killer resale value.

Luxuries really does not add value and cannot be used to justify the price of a new model. Just bring the thing with the same spec as the equivalent Fortuner and make it R80k cheaper. Then you'll stand a chance.

    IMHO.

The competition should not be copying. They should be reinventing.

One other issue I see is that you can currently get between 6-9% discount on a Fortuner. I cant see Chev offering discounts on a recently released vehicle. This makes the Fortuner a lot cheaper than the Trailblazer.

At least the customer has more choice now.

Well the Chev is actually the new Isuzu so don't write it off, it's going to sell plenty. I also agree about the Fortuna being a 7 year old design, it's getting really old and is now miles behind the competition, BUT South African's walk around with blinkers on and if the badge say's Totota they buy the thing, actually crazy.
It is beyond my little brain that the Fortuna sells as it does, it racked up a pretty bad name at one stage for preferring to stand on it's roof than on it's wheels but the sales just kept on going. The Pajero Sport entered the game and although is has the same spec, handles better (far) and is overall a really fantastic vehicle, simply did not even ruffle the Fortuna's feathers, why, no one knows. So let's see what the future brings with the far better and modern Isuzu, their marketing had better be first class.

Its all about service availablility.Toyota nearly 200 service centres, isuzu maybe 100 and mitsu maybe 30.Why buy a brand that you cant service near your town.

Wondering why this thread is under The Pub section and not under the Vehicle and Technical section......sorry, only realise now that Dirk has not deem it fit to have a seperate section for Chevrolet whilst he created one for TATA and GWM....... are they then better than Chevrolet who wants to kick-out Fortuner from its No. 1 spot?
Not in this Millenium, me thinks.
