    Question Buying Advice

    Hi Guys

Am new to the forum and currently drive a ford fiesta. Am looking at updrading to a 4x4/all wheel drive vehicle in order to get out and explore. After much browsing ond reading on this forum I am still not convinced as to what is the best option. So, heres the details:

Mostly city driving, occasional dirt roads & mozam trips. Still young and single so space isn't too much concern and budget around R150 000. Reliability is a major concern and hence have preference for a slightly newer "trusted" brand. So, the considerations:

    Suzuki Jimny 2010/11
    Daihatsu Terios 2009/2010
    Toyota Rav 4 2006/2007

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.8)

(also have considered cheaper old rav 1996-2000)

Hi Deano, I'm busy ordering my Jimny. Truely an amazing car! I would suggest you go onto the Suzuki section of this forum and browse a bit... You'll be hooked.

The Terios is also nice, but is lacking a bit in the capability department when compared with the Jimny.

Thanks for the reply Lou. I have read almost all the jimny threads from comparisons to rubicons to packing advice and they seem truely amazing. However, they seem to be quite overpriced in the 2nd hand market and only available from dealers. On road performance and that it is smaller than my current fiesta inside is a slight concern. Otherwise seems like an amazing little car!!

Xtrail was a consideration, just the 2.5 petrol that comes with 4x4 and heard some stories of the 2.2 diesel reliability issues. Not too sure what consumption and reliability on the xtrail petrol are like?

The 4.0 liter sahara seems like overkill for occasional dirt and sand and will be heavy on petrol. Am 23 and just started working full time so consumption around town is an important consideration..

    Apreciate the replys,thanks guys.

    Test drive your choices.

Take special notice of performance, handling, road noise and rattles - the first thing youll notice when living with one of your choices :-)

Decide: Offroader vs Sotroader - what will suit your life style / requirement best.

    ...good luck!

Softroader would be better suited, however, jimny compares in that its cheaper in most cases and the consumption/city driving isn't too bad. Thats where the difficult decisions come in.. I have test driven these vehicle so just looking for some personal experience advice as it seems I wouldn't be wrong in choosing any of them.

Go and test drive a Subaru forester 2.5 X or Diesel too.

They handle brilliantly on the road and better than most softroaders off road.

Stop wasting your time and get a Defender 90 TD5 with FSH and you can go anywhere.
