    Final comments

Although I left Bush Lapa with a smaller than expected smile on my face Buksie quickly changed that. The build quality, towing stability and ease of setup is exceptional. I have not yet ventured off road but are looking forward to my March 2013 Kalahari trip.

My NL Weekender fridge fits nicely into the space behind the gas stove with still space for some loose stuff next to it (pity I did not think of the same storage box that Jaco or Michael had fitted) I will also put the rubber covering (I think Aviator called it taxi carpets) onto the floor and in the shelves on the inside. It will just help to protect the paint (and keep the cold of our feet).

I asked Francois to check on the usage of the solar panel and charger simultaneously (when connected to 220V) and he informed me that he checked with the supplier and it will not be a problem. I am still uncomfortable and will check the forum for info in this regard. (In mean time I will switch off charger when battery is full and let the solar panel take over)

In summary the waiting was definitely worth it and I highly recommend the Bush Lapa product to anybody looking at buying into this market segment. The service was good and I hope that I do not need any after sales service soon but trust that the guys at BL will honor their word (they gave no indication that they won't)

Another plus point for me is that I managed to get Buksie through a standard garage door, even with the Bush Wing attached.

As a closing comment, that glass of sparkling wine celebrating the new family member tasted VERY NICE.

Tobie, now for the first extreme overland trip Something like Kaokoland of Kafue (off the beaten track). Once you have done that, a feedback report would be appreciated

Here's a picture of Jannie's Miskruier in Kaokoland during the 2012 school holidays. I got the picture off www.bushlapa.com.

I'm certain Jannie is too busy for trip reports and his views will probably be perceived as biased anyway.

However, I remember the spot in the picture. I have a similar one of a 2009 trip, it is on quite a rocky strecth on the way to Van Zyl's pass.

    Hi Tobie,
Have you found a solution for reading lights apart from headlamp or did you experience another problem?

There is nowhere I think the Bushlapa products won't go, as ours followed us thought the Kgalagadi, and on some rocky and deep sandy roads without any problems.

For additional reading lamps, we had Jannie install extra LED lamps, post delivery, the same as the ones that it was delivered with. In actual fact, we have 11 of them in various places around the Miskruier.

Regarding servicing and warranty issues, Jannie has gone above and beyond to honor issues we have had, i.e. the power box that stopped accepting a charge from our vehicle whilst driving. So I do not foresee any problems in this regards for Bushlapa owners, as I know he would do anything rather than having an unhappy customer.

Sorry I was referring to the tail lights of the caravan. For reading no solution yet as I read on iPad but was trying to be honest in commenting.

While on the topic of rear LED lights, i have posted a separate thread under Volkswagen header regarding towing the Bushlapa with an Amarok. It seems the Amarok has the same issue than the Ford and needs a different lume. Any Amarok owners towing a Bushlapa that has the facts? Or am i the only Amarok owner towing a Miskruier......very soon!

    Default Reading light option

Reading light? . I'm sure I can make a plan and will post under the Bush Lapa mods thread when I do. The obstacle with the setup is that your head is on the side of the fold out section and the solution will not be a permanent fixture. All you have there is canvas and pipe frame covered with canvas.... for the most part. We sleep on the side bed of the Miskruier and there is a 12v plug by the door. All I would do is sow or glue some velcro onto the tent section above our heads. The other part of the velcro will be glued to a LED light similar to the ones used in the van. Run a short length of flex wire from the 12v plug under or around the mattress and stick the LED to the velcro on the canvas above your head and you are sorted .
