    Default Sprinter down on power

    Hi,
SWAMBO has a sprinter bus at work, it is probably about 5 years old and diesel - cant tell you any other details motor wise.

Now the problem is that it revs fine, but has no power. I know just enough about how a petrol motor works to be dangerous and even less about diesel. My first thought is that it probably has something to do with the turbo, maybe a broken boost pipe, I don't know.

    Any ideas?
The bus is currently at Sandown Commercial, off Main Reef rd JHB. I am not looking for a DIY fix, but rather to be armed with some knowledge.

    Thanks

erm... Take it to a merc dealer, will cost you R650 to know exactly whats wrong with it + a quote to fix it. (you get the R650 back if you fix it with them)

It can literally be many things, blown off boost pipe, maf sensor, fuel filter, pump, clogged particulate filter etc...

Chris, thanks for the contact - I'll get SWAMBO to keep it handy.

So the diagnosis does not seem to fit the symptoms as explained by the driver - Merc garage says it is the clutch and gearbox that are the problem - with a quote for just over R20K for repairs (I am not sure on the details on of the necessary repairs).

The parts come to around R15.5K and R2.2K for labour plus VAT......

SWAMBO is going to contact Dirk as suggested by Chris B above.

Looking at the quote, the various parts do not seem unreasonably priced, it is just that there are a few big ticket items.

A friend's sprinter developed similar symptoms while towing back from PE last year, fault was eventually traced to a blocked cat. Quick way to check is to simply disconnect the exhaust knuckle just before the cat and take it for a spin.
