    Default Sani Pass Snow

    Hi Guys
I took my new AWD GWM for a spin through Lesotho 2 weeks ago. Entered at Maseru and off too Afriski to experience some snow. After the carnage on the Mahlasela Pass a few weeks ago, I was quite carful and was watching the weather carefully. What a disappointment when we saw small pockets of the remaining snow only. So we made the best of our time at the Afriski lodge and was pleasantly surprized with some snow that changed the landscape totally overnight.

Left Afriski the next in such great weather, that we expected to reach Sani Pass at around 4 that afternoon. Got there at 5 (too many photo moments) and decided to stay over for the night. We spent the next three days watching the snow blanket rise as the snow kept on falling. No vehicle (not even the mighty Ford F250) was going to be able to go down safely in these conditions.

At a reduced rate of R1300 per room (freezer) per night, the 9 people stuck at Sani top Mountain Lodge, decided it will be cheaper to charter a chopper to take us down to Underberg, and to return later for our cars. 3 flights later and we all safely down.
We returned last Sunday to fetch our vehicles. What a holiday!
