To run something from a inverter, something 1000w plus, does one not need serious battery power for that? something like a ice machine will run permanent and that is a big draw on your batteries? Or does it only get used for short periods at a time?

How do you keep your batteries full on a trip?
Is it not better to make/put ice in the freezer and use a ice machine where you have access to 220v?

I too very much enjoy my ice.
    Hi

I only run for an hour, batteries are charging Via Solar Panels, 220w and a 150w panel.Keeps the batteries above 75% , whilst running the Ice machine. Don't use it all the time.

Ice in the Freezer just takes up space, but do keep extras.. When there is 220 I use 220

There are many Inverters out there that will do the job... the question is what are you willing to pay for one?

Maybe also talk to National Luna direct and ask them what they think?

    Morning

I did speak to NL and recommended a 1000w inverter, He did recommend the Victron, but it is pricy, however you pay for what you get.
All my electronic in the Van are Victron, so I will possibly go that route. I don't like to battle whilst out camping.

I will do test runs at the lodge before we go off grid. and to monitor the power usage off the batteries whilst charging via Solar.
I have plenty battery power as I also have a NL battery pack in the Bakkie that can run via the car and Solar. That's 105 amp.

    Will still play around

Keep well guys and thanks for all the imput.

    Much appreciated.

    Morning All

Either the Lock down is getting to me or it is the age but I thing it is the lack of Camping.

Somewhere on this tread some posted a MOD it was a stand to stop the Kitching Slide from Saging.

I for life of me cant find that post.

If someone can help I will appreciate all assistance.

    Hi guys,

ETA for my new Ratel4 is about 2 weeks! Super excited, but I guess only backyard camping for now.

Question to other Ratel owners: I know it obviously depends on your vehicle (I currently have a Prado), but to what degree can you see cars behind you in your side-mirrors? BL a bit narrower than my existing caravan. I hate those mirror extensions and wondering whether I should consider a rear camera?

    Any thoughts? Thanks provisionally!

    Hi Hannes
We also changed form a road caravan to a Ratel 4. I don't use the side mirror extensions anymore and can clearly see whats behind me. We did a 3 week trip in December and never used the extension mirrors.
All the best with your new Ratel and post some pics please. Can imagine the excitement

Maybe the government should force everyone to camp in the middle of nowhere for a couple of weeks. Some serious social distancing!

This issue has been discussed frequently.....the fully laden fridge drawer inevitably sags a few mm's. Various mods have featured on this thread, I tried several.....with varying degrees of success. Think I've finally solved the challenge in all respects.....
    You need:
    Adjustable legs
    2 Flat hinges
    Channel aluminium
There is actually 5 cm space between the door and the shelf end, easily holds the folded-in legs. See pics.....shout if anybody interested in further details.

Looks like a Connect-It bracket, available from Maizey's and some hardware shops. I built our entire drawer system out of the stuff.

I did an experiment with my battery box (one 105AH) and my Victron Phoenix 1200V/A inverter driving a 12kg NL icemachine for more than 4 hours and he voltage drop on the battery was 0.06AH. Running off the two 105AH batteries is the BL should be a breeze. Those machines are tops.

NB: Ensure the wires from the battery to the inverter is at least 16mm
