Not quite, unless the bikes are very heavy. Only about 70% of weight added to the nose box goes to the tow ball with 30% to the axle/ wheels.

That said, if one is already at 80kg (and I find the tow ball quite heavy already), the extra 21kg will just push it over the limit.

I did it myself. If I can find a side profile photo of a Ratel, I can quickly draw one up.

Would loading height, chassis forward/backward tilt and axle height not play a role? I'm sure it will, but not sure how much

I have a 90l NL on the slide not strapped down. Never had a problem with it moving even on Botswana gravel or Kgalakgadi corrugations. Just load enough Windhoeks in the bottom mandjies for low centre of gravity 😀😃

    Hi All

I am eagerly awaiting my Baobab due early July. Please could I get advise re the rims and tyres. 15 inch rims with 245 tyres or 16 inch rims with 265 tyres

    Tow vehicle Disco 4.

Would 16 inch rims and 265 tyres offer much better floatation in sand.

What are the most essential items on the extras list

Not sure what wheels and tyres your Disco is using, but if at all possible, matching your caravan wheels and tyres to your Disco as well as the axle width to your vehicle will help down the road. Flotation will be based more upon airing down than upon the standard inflated tyre. For some reason my original Miskruier came with 2 x 16 wheels and 1 x 15 with tyres that were appropriately sized. I used them without issue. Just aired them down the same and they did fantastic. Later I swapped the axle for one a heavier one to match my 200 and went to 17 wheels and matching KO2s. Does better in sand tracking my vehicle now.

Hi My vehicle has 19 inch rims, which I dont think are suitable for a Bush Lapa

I don't think the difference would actually be that significant. Personally I would go for 15" rims as tyres are generally more available and I suspect a bit cheaper as well.

Extras is very personal and I'm actually not even up to speed on what they are these days. As an example, a lot of people swear by a geyser but we do not see the need. On the other hand we got the bicycle rack mount and never used it. Maybe send a list of extras you're considering then we can comment on that based on our experience.

Keep the rims standard. Optional extras are very much dependant on how you intend using the caravan with all the core stuff are included as standard. I'm not sure of the latest extras list, but think if, how and when you'd use each item on the list. If you can't find a realistic reason, leave it.

A good habit I got into is when I put the rack on the top of the Cruiser I would take the garage door control out of the vehicle and leave it at home. That way if I came home, got out of the car, opened the garage door and still drove in with the rack, I deserved what I got.
