Have you tried Tuffstuff?

Hello forummembers,
I am urgently looking for some help! For a few weeks now I try to get a car insurance for our Dutch car in SA. Until now I have little luck, either insurance companies don't reply, reply only after I started the complaints procedure, or decline us for insurance.
In a two weeks our car with Dutch licenceplates will arrive in Capetown. We then start travelling from Capetown back to The Netherlands with our own car (LR OneTen). I know that in all other countries we can arrange some insurance at the border.
To have good coverage we would like to also have some insurance coverage in SA. We only look for liability coverage (so if we hit others) and no damage compensation for our car if it was our own fault.
We drive a Land Rover with the steering wheel on the right (so correct side for SA). We are experienced drivers and have experience with driving in South-Africa and other african countries as well as other parts of the
world.
In the last 10 years or so we have driven without any damage or insurance claim. My last two insurance companies gave statements that we indeed never claimed anything.
If you guys have any clue or ideas to insure a foreign car in SA, it is much appreciated! (I'm getting a bit desperate)
Please e-mail me you contact details and I will see what I can do to assist you. [email protected]
Thanks...but its my job.
You can only insure a vehicle in the country where the vehicle is registered.. International law.
You could look to see if "Forbes" or "Camble Irvine" have a branch in your country. They will insure for other countries.

I can only say what Outsurance and Zuric Insurance and my own insurance company here in the UK told me.
That is by International Law you may only insure a vehicle in the country of origin.
Now I undersatnd that in South Africa third party cover is paid for in road fuel. In Botswana then I pay at the border as I do in Namibia.
For All Risks then I have to go to either Forbes or Camble Irvine who really charge with a heavy payment in the event of a claim whch IMO doesn't make it woth it.
Maybe for our next trip you could advise us differently ?

My insurer (as most insurers) in The Netherlands only covers Europe and several related countries; "all greencard countries". outside those countries they won't cover.
I would one insurer in The Netherlands who would cover it, but for what they charge I can start my own insurance fund!
Especially given all the exclusions they make...
In general their response is that I should fix it locally. In pretty much all countries I can have 3rd party coverage locally (the mandatory insurance).
Good to hear that 3rd party coverage is partly in the fuel price. But I do prefer to have at least a contact who can help me with this; since my knowledge of SA law is limited .
For SA I find it hard to get insured. Luckely Raymond has replied; since the reply of most insurers is not that welcome .
Fuel includes cover in terms of road accident fund (RAF)...injury to passengers only.
Third party liability damage to vehicles and property must be bought seperately....and this is what we are doing here.
Material damage to own vehicle is not under discussion here.
I dare to say that we must not get confused with "iternational law" as defind by Outsurance and Zurich in England and the laws governing insurance in South Africa.
