    Default TJ Wrangler Auto Gearbox

    Hi

I have a 2002 TJ Wrangler on which I have put JK rims and tyres (31.5"). It currently has a manual gearbox and I want to regear, but considering changing to an auto gearbox. Any suggestions on which auto gearbox, where I could get such installed in PTA and approximate cost thereof?

What gear ratio are you currently running and why do you want to regear? Regearing has nothing to do with your gearbox - it all happens in the differentials. I run 32" BRG ATs with 3.73 gearing with my 4spd auto box and I am more than happy with it's performance.

its a daily driver so would just enjoy the luxury of driving an automatic plus its easier whilst doing 4x4 - I have almost rolled my car off a little mountain, thanks to incorrect clutch use, was not pleasant.

im running 31.5 with 3.07 so on the freeway on a an uphill, I can hardly use 5th gear, plus it has become more fuel thirsty. I guess it would be fine with 3.73 gearing.
I was under the impression, that should I change to an auto gearbox that I would need to change the differentials anyway, which would be of benefit to my current setup.

Expensive - rather sell this TJ and buy an auto TJ I am convinced it will be cheaper.
Water covers 3/4 of the earth, Jeep covers the rest.

I agree. Say for instance you switch to an 42RLE 4spd auto box then you will have to change your ECU as well - the ECU controls the gearbox. Then you will still be stuck with 32" wheels on 3.07 gearing which would be absolutely dismall with the 4spd and your overdrive will be totally useless which means you will still have to regear.

That will be about enough for regearing only.
