Whereas in most of the larger towns I have paid for food and fuel in SA Rands, in the remote areas they do not except Rands but only Pulas for fuel

Taking meat and dairy products into Bots. from SA, never seems to be a problem. You will not encounter Vet checkpoints on the way West (CKGR and Maun) or North (Kasane), but rest assured, you will be stopped on numerous occasions going in the opposite direction ie. Home (South and East) and entering Bots. from OTHER countries. If you are found to be in possession of the goods (they sometimes rely on your honesty by asking and sometimes SEARCH), it will be confiscated or you will be given the option of cooking your meat right on the spot.
Our freezer with 5 packs of frozen, vacuum packed meat, was far from our minds when we entered at Kazungula Ferry one glorious day in July. And as we are honest and would not surrender
, we spent an hour or so boiling everything in the bag, on every gas bottle, in every pot, pan and kettle available!

I see my initial post went bonkers. 80% of the text is gone.
Does anyone have a copy somewhere (mods ? ? ? ).
I will redo it as soon as I gathered all the info.
Kobus
Kobus, I have most of it here:
http://www.pictureafrica.org/Picture...ampers....html
Thanks. I knew it was somewhere out there, but couldn't remember the website.
Will fix it up tonight.
You won't mind if I mix some of your information in there ?

I have tried to restore everything.
There are still a few links to the Botswana Tourism website I need to add (It was not functional when I updated my post.)
Please let me know if there is anything missing.
PS. I'm not 100% sure about the "entry fees". Let me know if it has changed. (My vehicle is registered here. I never worry about looking at the fees.)

Be my guest! The more information out there, the better!
I think everyone wants to know if you can still pitch up and stay at Savute without booking...
Kobus- Like you said, great website - where else do you get an offer like this? http://maunselfdrive4x4.webs.com/app...pings-botswana

Regarding Botswana border entry charges, I found that going in via the "back door" at Two Rivers (June 09), no payment is required at all.
Platjan border times 06h00 - 18h00
Latest Mabua fees for non-residents as at 22 July 2009
Vehicles - P4 pd (under 3,500kg)
Visitor - P20 pppd
Camping - P30 pppd
Mabua Wilderness Trail - P200 pp
(All prices for adults 15 years and older)
I read this on another forum:
At last managed to confirm Savute&Ihaha provisional bookings for July 2010 by faxing Gaborone and redirect my request to them instead of the Maun's office.
Guys, please note that Bigfoot Safaris charge P150pppd camping fees for 2010. This is no rumour and I phoned again to make sure it's not a mistake.
DWNP provisionally still on P30pppd.
Cut-off age for children with BS is 16 years.
DWNP 18years.
So beware. You pay for your children 16 and up full price as well as 5 times more.
Khutse, Xaka & Piper all with BS.
In the north some camps are still with DWNP so I am thinking of changing my reservation at Sunday to one of the DWNP camps in order to save on camping fees.
Another option will be to book all my days in CK in the north and bush camp all the way from Khutse to the north.
Anybody aware of any upgrades at the "private camps" that will justify paying 5 times more for their facilities?
Is the situation still the same - you may take meat North and West, but not South and East?. Has anybody recently travelled to Kasane? Any problems with the vets?
