Hi Derick
We are travelling from CT, also via Serowe and then Kubu Island before going to Haina to camp for 3 nights. We then go north towards Maun. We have been told that we could have problems with red meat (doesn't matter how its packaged) after Kubu, so have decided not to have any red meat with us from Kubu onwards.
What dates will you be at Haina?
Cheers
Janeb

Can anyone tell me if there are check points on the road between Mcarthy's Rest border post and the Botswana transfrontier park (Mabuasehube). Our experience in April 2008 on the road between Maun and Nata was not good. The officials were condemning any meat - even ham in a sealed pack - and even if bought in Maun. They also said dairy products such as cheese and milk were verboten. We wnt to take meat to Mbuasehube as there is nowhere to buy it after McCarthy's Rest.
I have never encountered one on this route before, and it is unlikely as the south doesn't have vet fences. The only place you are likely to be checked is at the border, but that is unlikely. Having said that, we usually buy our meat in Tshabong - it isn't the world's best, but makes a perfectly good potjie and you can often get excellent steaks. There are a couple of butcheries - I can't remember offhand which one we used last time.

As from Jan 2009 at entry your charges are as follows
20 Pula (disc valid from Jan - Dec)
40 Pula (Road permit only valid for one entry)
50 Pula (Third party insurance for all non-Botswana registered vehicles valid for three months form date of purchase and can be renewed at any customs desk)
This is for vehicles only, I am not sure what happens with a trailer.
Anyone been through Sekoma recently?
Is there petrol there?

KobusDJ - where are you based in Botswana? I'm currently based in Orapa....
