    Thanks for the reply.

We will be in Moremi for a couple of days and then plan to go down to Khutze and maybe also Mabausehube before making our way back home in Mossel Bay. So looking on the Botswana map from Tracks for Africa, the shortest route is down to Matswere en then the straight cut line to the top entrance for Khutze pass Gope. If this is not advisable, we'll have to plan again, so we are looking for advise please.

It might be the shortest but will not be the fastest and easiest. I hope someone who has traveled those tracks will see and respond, but I have not once read of someone who did.

Can anyone give us advise on these road conditions?

Self drivers are ONLY allowed to enter the Reserve through STIPULATED entrances (Being Matswere, Tsau, Xade and Khutse), where your camping fees and park fees could be charged and registered in the tourists register. The Gope Entrance is there, BUT only for OFFICIAL Vehicles (Government or Mining Explorations). So if you want to take the cutline, then you have to drive all the way and then turn to lephephe, then Molepolole, then Letlhakeng to Khutse entrance, which will be way too far. Your choice is Matswere-Xade-Bape and Khutse, which is a challenging route.

That's only about 450km. You should be able to do it in 3 days ...

Thanks for the advise Pat - we're going to give Khutse a miss this time around and just do Mabausehube on our way back.

    HI all
Sorry if this information is somewhere, but what is the road tax cost for Botswana at the moment. The websites seem out of date. We will be entering at Two rivers, Kgalagadi and then exiting via Mabua to Tsabong and then out to SA, firstly where will we pay the road tax and what do we pay for the cars per day and where do we pay this - at Two Rivers or when we leave Mabua gate?
Also if we are entering at Two Rivers, will we be checked for meat?
    regards

Given the Foot-and-Mouth situation in the RSA, may I take meat (and others) into Bots?

Not up north. I want to take the short cut Middelputs/Bokpits.

    Thanks

Crossed the border in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, we did immigration control at the SA entrance of the park, no fees or customs or meat checks at all. We exited the park into the Botswana side at Kaa Gate with no problems at all. Cut lines were pretty bad that side, not fun driving...

You'll need to pay park entrance fees to get into the parks via the MAIN gates they only ever checked out permits when we entered not when we exited the parks in Bots.

Surprisingly we only went through 2 vet checks the whole trip (3 weeks) at Moremi and at Gweta. They just had us sterilize our shoes and sprayed the car half-assedly.

The only time our car was searched was on arriving on the SA side at Pioneer Gate, the SA guys checked our cooler boxes out of curiosity more than anything, gave the guy some spare padkos for his troubles.

Keep an eye out for livestock on the roads, keep eyes open for locals swerving around livestock on the roads, we saw a head on collision happen because of this...

Anybody on route to Francistown from SA or Gabs should take note that the A1 is flooded and closed Foley siding. The river has burst it's banks due to heavy rain.

Any new regulation for entering Bots?

Is it still a negative covid test no older than 72 hours?
Also, do I still need another test for exiting Bots? (I’m not talking about the other country’s requirement but just for Bots).

    Help will be appreciated

Regarding the Daily conservations/access fees for the Botswana reserves, does anyone know if it is possible to pay the daily park fees for Chobe/Savuti/Moremi on-line and prior to our visit without physically going into the offices at Kasane or Maun?

Has anybody crossed the border at Kopfontein? I’ve never been through there but seems to be a good option for me.

You can usually pay with your card. But rather take a few hundred Pula to be on the safe side…
