    Smile Prado 120

So... after the past 2 weeks I've been hopping from Fortuner 2x4 to Fortuner 4x4 to Pajero Sport Auto to Pajero Sport Manual and have finally decided on a Prado 120.

My ideal prado would be 2005 upwards. Little bit more than 100000km's on the clock, FSH and no accidents. In great condition. I'm not stating what price range since it's difficult to judge by the prices currently. If the deal is good, I will take it.

So if anyone know of any deals or of anyone that wanna sell, please let me know.

    Thanks
    Kris

Just make sure from the service schedule what replacements will be coming your way in the 100,000km upwards range so that you are aware of that beforehand.

Also just take into consideration what might also need replacement with that km's, thinking shocks, tyres etc.

    Happy hunting

    Really?

Didn't think they will be that much in demand because of the fuel usage.

Yip 4.0L. Never even thought I will be considering it, but the petrol consumption is not a issue for me. If you wanna drive a 4L Beast, then atleast be prepared to feed it. You have to take every last aspect of the car into consideration before you worry about fuel. Only my personal opinion. We did open road 50km this weekend and got an average of 12.1L/100km. That was driving uphill, downhill and never going less than 110km/h. I think that's fine. Of course not always gonna stay that way but probably looking at an average consumption of between 14-15L/100km and that will be fine for me.

on a long stretch you could even get between 9.5-10.5 L/100km driving at around 110-120 km. Fully loaded with roof rack , i get about 12,5- 13 L/100km.

Also heard that yes. Driving from PTA - Kruger? Probably up until Machado will definetely get about 10L/100km. So basically it's when used in town where the consumption shoots up. But it's like that with any car, just little bit more in the prado. But can you really compare the ride in a german hatchback/sedan with that of a prado? Like I said, my mind is made up. I have no doubt that it's a great vehicle and that I will have years of joy with it. Patience is the key!!!

The comfort levels in the prado 120 more than match that of any german vehicle.I actually got about 11l/100km from Pta to Nelspruit en route to Kruger last Dec and that was fully laden but I was driving around 100km/h. The prado isn't meant to be a speed wagon but that beast of a V6 really comes into its own when overtaking. I hardly use it around town though coz the consumption goes all the way to 15-16 L/100km. My last service at 100k km came in at R3300 including new front brake pads.No cambelt service needed as its chain driven. good luck with your search. The right one is out there for you.

    Thanks.

Yip still looking. I guess they are hard to find. I will probably only use it on weekends around town. We have a smaller car that does about 7L/100km so it will be stupid to use it everyday. Having said that, I dont think I will be able to control myself to only drive it on weekends. Unless I head over to Kruger each weekend. Hopefully i can still get one before the next 3 months. They look awesome.

    Hi Krouxsa,

I just bought a 2005 VX (4.0 petrol) - my situation is almost identical to yours. I looked for months until I found it... and now I can't restrict it to just weekends

Good luck. Best car I've ever owned. The power is awesome and off-road (only light stuff so far) its just great.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay? and mileage? Condition?

Yeah im like a little kid in the candy shop at the moment. I know I should wait but I don't see any great deals currently. I spoke to a guy at Toyota Pre Owned and he told me that dealers sometimes ask upto R35k above retail for Fortuners/Hilux/Prado's. But I am looking each day. It's just after I drove a couple of them over the weekend, I can't wait!!!

That is the problem. My friend sold his Hilux the other day to a secondhand dealer, got retail - R183,000. The dealer sold it for R229,000. That's R46,000 above retail, biggest chunk of that would've been needed to be paid in as extra deposit as you can't finance that.
