The hassle with buying a car like this is that the price is seriously over book (retail for an '06 4.0 is about R 290K), and the bank may only be willing to finance up to R 320K (book plus 10%), you having to pay in the rest.

If I can add something, don't be too hung up on the car being over 100,000. There's Prado 4.0's out there with well over 200,000 still running like clockwork.

I don't doubt that at all, my question is, don't you open yourself up for maintenance items like shocks, timing belts/chains, etc needing a change from 100,000 up, what you wont have on +-50,000?

There's prado 4.0's with over 400,000 still running. I have no doubt it will last even with more on the clock.

But if I can get one with little more than 100k, I will be glad.

I bought mine with 110k on the clock. Now on 175k. I have spent a fortune (NOT!)...

Replaced the shocks just after I got it - basically just because I thought it a good idea at the time. Also put on new tyres then and subsequently changed these again. The first set just peed me off to much. These were basically discretionary costs.

In terms of running cost, there's the fuel off course. Sometimes I do some minor servicing myself - just 'cause I want to work on the car a bit (since I don't have a LR for that...) and other times at the stealers or indy.

For the size and spec of this car the maintenance cost is actually the last thing I worry about - even without service/maintenance plan or warranty. I really battle to spend bucks on the car, sometimes reading posts from other guys I feel inferior re my maintenance bill. Please let this not jinx me to set up a gearbox in my immediate future.....

Yeah im like a little kid in the candy shop at the moment. I know I should wait but I don't see any great deals currently. I spoke to a guy at Toyota Pre Owned and he told me that dealers sometimes ask upto R35k above retail for Fortuners/Hilux/Prado's. But I am looking each day. It's just after I drove a couple of them over the weekend, I can't wait!!!

Mine is a 2005 VX with 120 000 on the clock.
It is in near mint condition - there is 1 (4cm) scuff mark on the drivers seat leather. Otherwise it looks like its just come out of the showroom - which is hard to find because this one has the beige interior.

It has a 9000lb (4 ton) Come-Up (DV-9000) winch fitted and an air-compressor in the engine bay. This was all done in one fitting (important apparently) and is done very well... I checked all the work as closely as I could.
The tyres have about 60% remaining and are Dunlop GrandTrek AT20 (17") - which are not bad, but not great. I will be waiting for the new range of Dunlop MT or something like that (coming out soon) for my next tyre - they are apparently amazing tyres.

There is also and "Anderson" plug on the back (if Google is correct) - I dont know what this is for properly yet - but its there nonetheless. Answers would be appreciated

I paid, R267 000 for the car from a dealership in Pinetown, Durban. Its a good price, but... I negotiate pretty well

Just fitted a little FM transmitter thing so I can listen to music and AudioBooks on my phone (was R160) - works like a treat.

I wont do any modifications until I know what I want to do... like other people on this forum, I sometimes just work on the car because I like doing it. Its a nice big car to get stuck into

Brilliant brilliant car not much bargains around because such a big market for them!

Either I cant drive or there is something wrong with mine consumption on open road is above 13L and in town above 16l/100km.

On my last trip to Umhlanga last week I managed 10.1l/100km (indicated on trip computer) by sticking to the speed limit on the N3 all the way from Centurion to Umhlanga. Real figure would probably have been 10.5l/100km. I'm was happy with that. When only driving around centurion I also get 15-16l/100km.

Yes Centurion to Umhlanga is down hill what was your average from Centurion to Centurion. I am seriously trying to establish an average for the V6 for free way driving?

The Anderson plug could have been for a fridge in a trailer if it is outside the vehicle. If in the interior of the back could be for a dual battery system that could be removed.

I bought mine January 2011, with 91,000km on the clock. At R350,000 probably overpaid slightly, but it was exactly what I wanted, white with grey interior. What a car! Best money I have ever spent. I think I tracked it through cars4sale Now if only Swambo will let me drive it again...

Drove it for 80km's so far.
I can see what all the fuss is about. I feel like the captain of the titanic. What a car, what a drive! Pure luxury. Cant hear the engine at all. Cruises at 110km/h using avg 10.2L\100km. Did cost me R1600 to fill up. I can drive all day in one of these. Damn im excited! Photos to follow.
