Looks like we may sell our Companion after two outings, my girls seem to be a little unkeen on the camping type life, what a way to find out. Think it was the snake under the Disco at Borakalalo, they now can't relax.
That is devastating news Columbus! I fully understand that fine balance of mans need to camp and the family's needs. My only suggestion that might rescue your suggestion is a nice 5 star camping place like Mbizi or Sondela. I can't believe they won't enjoy that!

They don't mind staying in chalets or rondavels, it's just that extra wild feeling (the best part for me) in the Companion that may just be a little too much. Devastating indeed but not the end of the world, it's close though.

Ag no man Bryan.... After all the homework you did to choose the right one. At least the Companion is in demand so you should be ok selling it. Pity you did not get the Miskruier. With the waiting list and demand you would have been able to sell it at a profit .

Maybe you should hold onto the Companion and give it another go. Your kids do not yet realise what they will be missing out on......

Thanks Michael but one of the 'girls' is the boss so in a bit of trouble. Just one of those things I suppose.

Haven't made an absolute final decision yet but it is not going to make sense having the van sitting in the garage most of the time and used once or twice a year, will just book into a chalet. Might as well sell it when I can get good money back, the Companion price went up just after I bought it in Dec and it is brand new with the glitches sorted out and some nice mods done.

Eish ! I feel for you Bryan. Have a similiar dilemma, but with different circumstances. I used my van 4/5 times since new( past 12 months), then had to buy a car for the big 'un ! Thing is, I've only got 3 garages, and the big ' un has already told me that there is no way her new car is going to be parked outside. So, had a couple scares already, with the Jeep being relegated to 4th place, so it's parked outside........we've had two hail storms so far, fortunately no damage ! Don't think I could take more of this though, so, I've decided that the Companion needs to move outdoors ! ..........haven't had the heart to move her there yet though ! The voice of reason ( my wife), has told me, that I will regret the day the Jeep gets the highveld pox on the roof and bonnet ! So, ive contemplated selling my Companion ( for a few brief moments) ! Very uncertain as to what to do exactly !

So - we had our first two camps with the Companion and it was great. Easy to tow, not to difficult to set up or take down, and everything works fine, lay-out is great. However, there are some irritations, some more serious that others. Like that fricken bin in front of the drawers in the kitchen unit but I have already seen how to change that and will do it soon.

The biggest irritation, however, is setting up the fold-out beds with those silly rods. Could they not have made them to operate like a RT/TT tent? Has anybody ever tried to change it to work like that because this is on top on my list of mods.

    All advice welcome.

Has anybody ever thought or created a water tank level indicator for the Companion?

    Hi

How complicated is it to remove the rack when you want to camp?

I had one bike at the back of the car and one INSIDE the trailer on the last trip and it was a mission!

    Vossie, please elaborate.

I find that the two tents fold out (up) the same as a normal dome type arrangement with the hooks unto the rods. It helps to apply pressure to the rods when you fasten the hooks (to get it over the rod) and I think you must also start at the top (point nearest to the trailer).
