    Default Damon This past weekend

This past weekend MalOomJan and I decided to go and attack Damon 4x4 route just outside Worcester. Our pal JC decided to join us to check what all this 4x4 mambo jumbo was about (We honestly think he will be selling his platkar soon).

After some obligatory getting lost we eventually started the trail round 09:30 and progressed steadily and without incident to the 'braai plekkie' with spectacular views of the surroundings. The silence up there was so peaceful that it felt like a crime to speak very loudly.

We braaied enough meat for a small army and then proceeded to eat it all and the need for an afternoon nap under the gazebo was very great, but alas, we had to ploeter voort. We thought that the braai plekkie was about halfway but most of the effort was yet to come.

Steep inclines, steep declines, narrow passageways through the bushes, sliding down the mountain...in general great fun or vet prett!

We would really recommend this trail to anyone. They rate it as a 2-3 but even noobs like us can manage well.

Ja nee, this trail was an awesome step up from Helderberg last month. Just the right amount of nail biting for us noobs to progress in this new past time. Great trail with spectacular views. One negative though, the trail was a bit overgrown and the side scratches took some elbow grease to get out...

Was about to say it looks a little overgrown in some areas. Scratches are to be expected on most trails anyway. Mcguire's works well.

    Nice looking trail though.

Yip, very nice looking trail with some nice steep drops on some sections. Luckily the wives stayed home for this one, I think we would gotten a bit of panic from their side

I was very surprised that other than the people staying in the hut we were the only people there.

Yes, scratches were expected and they had started cutting away some of the worst bushes towards the end of the trail. Its just the waist high bushes in the middle mannetjie that were a bit strange

We would love to know how this trail compares to Tierkloof, if anyone has done both recently the info would be highly appreciated.

No comparison. we don't use Damon, not Challanging.
A 2 rating would be generous.
Any place where a Cruiser and a Jeep battle, we like to go there rather.

Jonno ,i have done both and like ORA said ,there is absolutely no comparison . Damon is a scenic drive and can be compared to MONTE CHRISTO.............Both are just plain BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNN NGGGGGGGGG !!!!!!

Watch the w/cape section ,as we go to TIERKLOOF very often. Still one of my favourites.

Thanks Offroad Addict! What would the difference be? Steeper declines / inclines, bigger 'trappe' in the rocks, more loose stones, steeper cambers etc.? Or more mud?

Would love to see what a trail rated as 3 would look like. I think that this would be our sort of trail. Incidently, we were looking some info on Friday before we left. Came across this on another forum

    http://www.nissan4x4.co.za/forum/for...s.asp?TID=1490

Are there any plans for a nice 'rustige' trail for July yet?

Damn, I thought I took the pic with the charcoal out! Ai, guilty as charged

I would love to try Tierkloof someday. What are the chances of falling down the mountain? Not so much scared of getting stuck or doing light body damage, its more about the instant death part that I worry about...

    Jonno, you pictures look great.
But your vehicles are full capable of doing virtually any trails that we do.
So join us on some thing and we will look after you (at your own peril)

The thing is, get stuck in, but know the limits. As Ian says, join us, there's always more than enough advice going around. One of the first things at "tool box talk" that is said "we're not here to damage vehicles or put anyone's life in danger", enjoy it, if you're not comfortable, take another route (there usually is) finish and klaar!

OK, I'm in... MalOomJan is still debating his manliness...

I saw the post for the 16th of June but unfortunately I already have something on. However, if there is something happening in July I would like to join in.
